    New rear shock?

Riding to work this morning the bike didn't feel right. Every bump felt really harsh. I had a look when I got to work and the only thing i have discovered is that if i continuously bounce the rear it squats and appears to bottom out.

Is it time for a new rear shock? What are the options (cheap!)? The bike has hit 50k miles and is starting to cost me money!

    Cheers

*edit* new Honda shock £521 plus vat! f**k that.

A rebuild by a local shock specialist should set you back about £100 - the gas goes after a while and at 50k yours would have probably started going about 40k ago !! so must me completely empty by now

02 RD07a RWB, Powerbronze tall screen, Remus Grand Prix, TT crash bars, TT pannier frame, Zega style panniers, Alpos top box,TT bar risers, TT headlamp guard, Heated grips, mainstand, Heidenau K60s for road and light offroad, TKC80s for the dirty stuff, Scottoiler, Autocomm, TT Zumo mount, Zumo 550 and most of all A BIG GRIN !!! Oh, and a very nice RD04 HRC coloured Marathon Replica

cheers for that! Yeah, I was looking at those - £300 so alot cheaper than Honda.

To be honest I didn't think they were rebuildable so thanks for the tip, I guess at £500 a pop they should be!! I'll look into it locally.

    Cheers

57000 km and mine has gone. Removing from bike tomorrow to get rebuilt. $180 Aus dollars plus another $200 for heavier spring.

    Re: New rear shock?

I got lucky, I stuck a wanted ad in and Austin alerted me of a WP one on ebay - £185 brand new (normally around £400?). Just picked it up, it looks like its old stock dating back to 2006, but presumably it should be ok? It looks nice anyway!

    Cheers

I fitted a Hagon last year to my 25K miler 10yo TA to allow quick and easy adjustments using a remote preload. Cheaper than Mr Honda's units, maybe not of the quality though....
