    Wrong chain info in Haynes

Just got back from bike show at SOE Showground. Took my chain info from Haynes: 525 110 links.
Thank god the guy there knew his stuff, should have been 118 links
Still, he supplied me with 122 to cover all eventualities.
Just checked my bike, it has 118.
Mmmm I wonder if I could get 110 on; that'll be a snug fit. I wonder what note it would play if I hit it with a screw driver

BTW, picked up a brand new Shoei Syncrotec flip up for my wife £50

    Which model Transalp is it?

It's not a case of whether we can fix it or not - it's more a case of how fixed would you like it?

Also an XV650V in silver on a 56 plate; ie V6 model.

Haynes has definitely made a printing error and it appears it should be 118

Unless it is 110 and explains why chain has gone past wear mark with 118 links!!!

No, I think it should be 118 links, though in the Technical Specs page I have it listed as 120 links.

I will check my '04 machine tomorrow and update the page if it needs it.

Re: Wrong chain info in Haynes

I remember something being a bit odd when I did my mates TA chain. The box said (say) 122 links and the book said (say) 118 links so I was all set to cut 4 links off. To be on the safe side I checked the old one and low and behold something was wrong as I only needed to take 2 links off. Had I removed 4 there would have been no way it would have fitted. I can't remember the exact numbers but I'm sure you get my drift.

650 transalp running standard sprockets is definitely 118 links. I have changed chains 4 times and it is always the same

Re: Wrong chain info in Haynes

I bought my chain on the internet and it came as 118 links, With the extra tooth on the front it was extremely tight fitting it but it did fit and is now at the correct tension without any adjustment needed.

Re: Wrong chain info in Haynes

Yes, just out of courtesy, even though the manual has been out a while, I'll email Haynes and let them know.
Bike definitely has 118 links, so I've reduced the new chain to 118 ready for the weekend fitting.
I remember the first time I did a chain, I counted from the inner link or outer, can't remember which, ended up one link too short

I now sadly count from both ways.... twice....
