Would love to mate but a select few ( me included ) are putting the last of the Mk2 Nimrods to bed for the last time. After Easter I am off shift work for at least 3 months and will have every weekend free so will be scanning the threads and hoping to join you guys on some ride outs. Thanks for the invite, much appreciated

Glad you've still got a job - even if it is putting the last old girls into mothballs.

Give them a pat from me as you pull the blankets over them for the last time - spent 2 years teaching weapon loading on them not too long ago.

Spare "Remove Before Flight" flag would be a nice momento

TY - you could always leave the extra long AN/ALE40 pin on it as well - always got a use for something long & thin

And all just to look like a hard, dirt ridin' man.

Some will claim that they protect the bike in a fall but most motorcycles in general don't have them and it doesn't seem to worry their riders much. It follows that there is no special need for Alps to do so, particularly where they are never used on dirt, which is why I conclude they are principally for looks.

Nothing wrong with dressing up a bike just for cosmetic reasons of course, I come from a background of having owned several Harleys where people spend vast sums purely for looks. It just appears that some newcomers here are being persuaded to fit these needless bars as though the bike is somehow incomplete without them. Personally I think the Alp looks grand without clutter attached to it like crashbars, belly pans, extra lights and so on. Whatever greases your axle though.
The day after I fitted my Crash Bars , I dropped my bike right outside my house .. (foot slipped) .. bike landed on path concrete edging .. at the fairing. damage none but a very small buff on crashbar..

2 weeks later dropped the bike while pushing out of workshop, (ice) again crashbar saved the fairing but on other side..

So that would have been 2 fairings ..

I do not do offroad , because Iam still a novice and I live in scotland so there is not many places to go .. legally ..

I have bash plate fitted, because I like the look , but I bought it secondhand and its travelled the world and seen many a bash and scrape.. But I like the look of it , better then plastic..

I also have cosmetic stuff to enhance the look of my bike , So what .. I spent my cash buying my bike and if I can afford to bling it up , then thats my choice .. Nobody forced me to spend my own money.

Anyways , to make a standard bike stand out , why not personalise it ..

Re: Givi engine bars Is it me?

I'd always have crash bars if available. My previous bike was a Z750S, to which I fitted crash bungs (bars weren't available for that model). Dropped it at about 20 mph on diesel , and despite the crash bungs managed to write it off. I suspect it would have survived better with bars.

Irrespective of whether you ride off-road or not, to quote the proverbial, "sh*t happens". Most people don't 'use' their insurance or AA breakdown ( or whatever ), but it's still nice to have as a precautionary measure. I take the same view with crashbars - £100 or so as a precautionary measure against a new bike - worth it in my opinion.

Just my view. If you don't like them, fine.
Transalp 700, heated grips, SW Motech crash bars, Barkbusters, centre stand, short@rse seat, Vario screen, Givi E21s, CR85 folding gear lever, Trax top box.

The beatings will continue until morale improves...

Yep, I'd go with the sh*t happens comment. I'm not planning on off roading my TA but I have ordered a set of Graves bars for it. I want to protect the plastic and the rads from whatever sort of off might happen. Or maybe a simple drop at walking speed.

I'm hoping that the money saved in any such incident will pay for the bars!

I have searched by the way, but most people recommend various bars, not specifically bash plates that suit the Givi.

    Thanks.
I think most aftermarket bashplates will fit s long as they do not go higher than the original and do not extend past the centerstand mount.
I got my crashbars after the bike fell over on the grass at home and hit a step cracking the fairing.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE
