    XL600 Exhaust help

    Hi,

Sorry to be boring but someone once posted on here about using other (note cheaper) exhaust alternatives for the xl600.....but this brain is too exhausted to remember which ones might fit. I think it could have been a venom with link pipe?? Does anyone remember this?

The Transalp exhaust is blowing big-time where it joins the header pipes. There are also a couple of holes just beyond that under the exhaust too so I think it's not going to pass the MOT...it was an advisory last time. The Alp has been fantastic for what I use it for...doing 'The Knowledge' in London traffic and the 40 mile blast in on the A13. I cover about 150 miles every time I ride and as an M reg it is bomb proof and has never let me down. Coming from a sports bike background, I think when I'm done I'll stick with trail bikes, they are brilliant! God knows what the mileage will be when I'm done...it's on 37k at present.

Being full time on 'the K' is why I'm asking about the different exhaust options as cash is tight...perhaps I'll find something on ebay?
Also I have managed to crush/sheer the inverted allen key nut that is on the left hand side of the engine casing for turning the engine when aligning the timing marks when doing the valve clearances....what a pain, the 10mm allen bolt just started buckling the alloy so that I couldn't get access to the engine and do them.....any ideas where I can get a new one??

    All help gratefully received!

Also a Hi to forum user who came over to me last weekend when I was in Lewisham. If you read this, chuck me over a photo of your old AT's... Love them

    Cheers
    Roger the road

    Many thanks

    Re: XL600 Exhaust help

I had a venom (and will again) on mine and paid about £20-25 for it
Slight prob with link pipe diameter (join with headers) and had to order a reducing collar, should go on fine when I get a chance but waiting for Lidl to sell those cheap angle grinders again to chop off a bit of length and fit under my luggage rack. Titch was useful with info and pics so use the search tool.
And all the best, you don't need to spend a fortune

    Re: XL600 Exhaust help

Thanks for the recomendation there Shack....

Right then Roger, two options for you...
    1) what I did was just get the custom can from my Gilera DNA125 after it was written off due to accident, and just stuck it on my Alp, to fill the gap between can and pipes I found a section of car exhaust from my local exhaust dealer, which perfectly fit inside the can opening and over the end of the downpipes from the engine (wil try and find the link to Shacks thread where I put the full details and piccies...), so basically you could make ANY can fit the Alp, just depends on how much bodging you want to do...

    2) if you just want to replace your original rear can, then I can help on that front... as still have mine that I took off when I fitted the custom one to mine. It looks in good nick with no holes or big rust spots...Will get a couple of pics on here for you soon...
If you want it, then make me an offer and it's yours.

Right then, have a look at these:

    re option 1)Swapping OEM exhausts

    re option 2) piccies below

The only rust visable is this bit, but the can is still strong with no signs of braking up.

Hi Titch, just to let you know that if Rogerm doesn't want your original silencer I am looking for one, as mine is rapidly turning to dust and the MOT is looming! Just let me know before I start bodging mine.

Cheers for the reply Tich. It looks good, how much do you want for it....and what do you think the postage would be because I guess it's quite heavy???

Ouch, hadn't realised how much they are new... £223 +vat from David Silers, and £208 inc vat from Honda , so on the basis that it is off an '88 Alp and second hand, how does £60 + p&p sound to you (will have to let you know on the p&p as like you said it is fairly heavy).

Or make me an offer around this price....

Rogerm has first dibs on it, but if he doesn't want it then same applies as above and it's yours.

    Re: XL600 Exhaust help

Hi Shack, Thanks for the offer - sounds fair but I'm going to let 'on one biker' take it off of you - I'll hang out for an aftermarket from fleabay and botch it up...it sounds like fun and perhaps a little more BHP!!?? You never know your luck.

Cheers for the advice and picks

    Regards
