I know...the braided hose line thing again!!!

Yep..the Braided Hose line discussion continues because im still a little confused as to where us TA owners actually stand if we want to upgrade brake hoses.

So I contacted Goodridge today and discussed the so called "race set up" procedure for the TA. Ok, it seems pretty straight forward, but why go to all that trouble to by-pass the splitter anyway? Is it really worth it?

So as i understand it, Goodridge do not currently manufacture a front standard brake line kit for the TA and the work around for this is to get the hoses manufactured seperately.

To this end has anybody actually had the hoses made specifically for their bike? As i see it i need 4 different lengths of hose. Can anybody provide the hose lengths?

    1. Master Cylinder to top of splitter (very small)
    2. Front LHS Hose (Long)
    3. Front RHS Hose (Long)
    4. Rear Hose (Longer er er...)

Apologies, for the repetative post, although, im all for good planning.

    Thanks as always...

    Lee

I don't know which TA you have. At least a TA600 double disc if not newer.

    I have a single disc 600.

Firstly, I'd consider not bothering with the rear. Yes it looks uniform and tidy, but it's not a brake that most use that frequently, plus the rear is not a tyre you want locking up mid corner as you try and scrub off some speed!

So you'll hve saved £25 there already.

Secondly have you looked on Wemoto? I got a ready-made German Merlin hose being sold on the TA600 accessories page. Perfect length, banjos with the right angles in their stems and off-set in relation to one another slo that the hose is not twisted. They are also well made, IMO.

    Worth a look!

It's also often cheaper, easier to bleed lighter to buy two front hoses and a double banjo for the master clyinder. Doesn't look quite as tidey, but the both run down to their respective calipers from the master cylinder rather than from the splitter. Just measure them well and made sure they don't rub or snag on the way down and give youself enough play in case the forks are fully exptended at one time or another. These will need to be ready made. Hampshire hoses in Southamton are good and not toooo far from you!

I have Goodridge front hoses on mine and have removed the splitter and just run two hoses from the master cylinder.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

Thank you very much for your responses.

I have a 05 650TA. I think i will take your advice Warthog and just go with replacing the front hoses for now. Im waiting on a call back from Goodridge on Tuesday to supply hose lengths for manufacture.

I will keep you updated how it goes, and when i have fitted em, will post some photos and the hose lenghths if anyone needs them.

    Thanks

Have you thought of using HEL hoses they are brilliant. I have used them several times on various bikes. They come complete with stainless steel banjos and copper washers etc

When I was doing this I phoned goodridge, who were very helpful but gave me completely wrong lengths for the bike! I think correct hose lengths (banjos excluded) are 950mm, 1080mm and 550mm. I'll measure when it stops raining....

Just checked, sorry for the wait, I was right, 950 and 1080 are what you want (that's about 50mm more than the bare minimum for each side)

    Hi Jarl,

Thank you very much for the measurements. Am i right in understanding that the 3 hoses are for the front only? If so, Can you please confirm the quantity and where the hoses is placed below and i will order tomorrow?

    1 x 950
    1 x 1080
    1 x 550

    Thank You

    Lee

550mm is for the rear. 950 and 1080 is for a dual line setup on the front. You need to be careful with banjo angles also, I think you'll want two 20 degree banjos for the callipers and one 90 and one 45 for the lever end. Make sure to get appropriate copper washers also, as well as a double length banjo bolt.
