Re: D lock under 650 Transalp seat. How?

Looking at the photos again, I'm wondering if maybe the seat support/lock bar should be above, rather than below, the carrier/pillion handhold frame. This might provide enough space to pass the locked U-lock under it. Or maybe the mudguard/storage moulding should somehow be lower?

Can anybody cast any light on this?

I used an Oxford Magnum 2000 insurance lock and it fitted under the transalp seat fine with the lock in place (the barrel end is round and smaller than the Honda squared one

Now I have an AT and the lock fits OK in the rack as Davsatos pic shows but I would have preferred the Honda one

However I have heard reports about the Honda one not being insurance approved - certainly not with Carole Nash- whom I'm insured through

I was thinking of going down the ABUS route as it's a neat fit on the rack

02 RD07a RWB, Powerbronze tall screen, Remus Grand Prix, TT crash bars, TT pannier frame, Zega style panniers, Alpos top box,TT bar risers, TT headlamp guard, Heated grips, mainstand, Heidenau K60s for road and light offroad, TKC80s for the dirty stuff, Scottoiler, Autocomm, TT Zumo mount, Zumo 550 and most of all A BIG GRIN !!! Oh, and a very nice RD04 HRC coloured Marathon Replica

Which model lock is that? It looks quite neat and I expect it would not rattle around

I use an Oxford Magnum Disc lock. It is easier to carry.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

its one of the abus granit range that my local cycling store had. dont know which model off hand but i measured what could fit in the rack and under the seat and bought the biggest one that would fit (d-lock sizing is width and depth of the inside of the 'd'). althought i got it from a push bike shop its a very solid lock and weighs a ton, and its thatcham silver rated. when you think about it cyclists have a bigger problem with thieving scumbags than we do, so they need good quality kit. i wanted one that would go through my chain and a lampost, or two front wheels, or rear wheel and swingarm etc. motorbike specific locks dont seem to be as long, i think to get gold rating and charge more. but in the shop i couldnt see any difference between this and motorbike granit locks, only the length of the 'd', the bar dia and the lock in the shackle is the same. oh and the price, i think this was £35 how much is a gold rated granit? i think theres a big difference in the perception of what cyclists and bikers are willing to pay.....

it doesnt rattle at all, its held under the seat by the clip and the big 'o'ring, and in the rack by the rubber strap you can see in my pic. this strap is supposed to come with the honda lock but i made my own. very simple, its just a 'T' shape about an inch thick with the long leg at an angle to suit where the bungee hook is.

as well as the shackle lock above, i have a disc lock that you cant leave on the disc, a luma Xmart. this is a lock that replaces the left footpeg and you cant ride off without it put back on. unless you were a total moron i suppose.
so my bike carries two almost built in locks that im never without.

Yep had one of those, but sometimes in a rush didn't put it on, then in a rush forgot I had the lock on. I know, I know, don't rush
