Givi E45 cases - any good?

    Hi there!
I'm thinking of getting rid of my original Honda panniers and top box (since I find them too small for travelling) and getting a set of Givi E45's. Does anybody have this set-up? I would love to hear about your experience. Maybe some pictures?

I would imagine you will have plenty offers for your Honda racks and pannier boxes. I have OEM topbox and i am fitting E41 Keyless pannier boxes but they havent arrived yet so cant say much about them. Well big enough i would have thought.

Re: Givi E45 cases - any good?

A long time ago in a previous life I had an E45 monokey case as a top box and a pair of E38 monokey cases as panniers and found then superb. I still have the E45 box in the garage, but it retired from full-time use after about 18 years. The E38's went with an earlier bike, just after the kids arrived......!

I would suggest that the E45 as a pannier is a tad on the large side. I managed to get a weeks gear for the wife any myself with room to spare in the set-up I had. Sure Her Wifeliness had to trim down a bit but we survived. Seriously the domed profile of the lid of the E45 makes you wide without getting much extra space. If that doesn't matter then go for it....!

I use the E45 top box because it can take 2 helmets easily, never had it leak or any build fault with it. You need to buy a Givi top plate to attach it to the honda rack. I did nave it broken into a few years ago but a new lock barrell was only £12 from giviv so no drama's there

As a top box the E45 is excellent, two full face helmets and gloves no problem. Solid too, I crashed my TA 650 on the M25 a few years back and the E45 bounced across several lanes (the mounting plate broke with the force) but it is still as strong and waterproof as ever. The TA on the other hand cost £2k to fix...

    I agree.
The E45 is an excellent top box but makes the bike a tad too wide as a pannier. I use the E45 everyday but the E38 panniers occasionally since most things on the dally commute fit into the E45.

I use a pair of E 45's as panniers. a bit oversize most of the time, especially as I'm nearly always alone these days. (the twins are now too big to fit in the panniers...lol)

    makes filtering an art though...

does my bum look big in this?

Re: Givi E45 cases - any good?

Ive got E41 Keyless cases on my TA700 and yes they are big, but ive never had issues filtering though you do have to set your mind differently to normal riding without them but youd have to do that with any cases surely.

I bought big side cases and a 35l top box as I hate having a big lump on the back when I ride every day, if I go out with the missus and want to store gear then I add the sides for storage if its required - I can get 2 helmets with gloves into a 35l top.

No issues with side winds, they do hold you back in strong face winds though but no buffetting effects and no effect on handling overall.

Main negative ive found is additional mpg on long distance motorways over 75. I only got 165miles out of the entire 17l tank riding at 90mph on French toll roads.

I think that you have to change the entire racks and plate from the Honda own to the Givi ones though! Have you checked this out?
TA700 2010 - Givi full set, Centre Stand, Scotoiller with LubeTube, Honda Tall Screen, Givi Crashbars, OEM Heated Grips, Fenda Extenda, Bar Risers, SSteel Spokes, Arrow Race-Tech DarkLine Exhaust, even bigger smile!!

TLD 2010 - 600 miles, 18 hours travelling, 4 hours sleep and no pint of guinness!! Must go back for that....

well mine are OLD i'll grant you, but they're badged honda & are simply givi cases re badged, i've always assumed that any givi case would fit on the racks, unless givi have g=changed their fixing system in the last 15 years...

My Honda case is a badged Givi [but only 2 years old] and have a different fitting to my E45 Monokey box so I would say that is a dangerous assumption.

Not having any experience of older Honda OEM'ed boxes makes it difficult be sure that the older boxes are not Monokey boxes in disguise....
