2004 Transalp 650 Edi Orioli Desert Replica by Boano Racing:

35,8 litres or 7,87 UK Gallons...in this tank:



I had to replace one of the fuel valves and empty the tank.
Have tested over 3 tanks and came up with a consumption of fuel to a rate of 4,4 litres pr 100 km = 64,2 mile pr UK Gallon or 14.1 miles/litre.
(This on mostly Norwegian mountain roads)

Tank Range: 814 km =505.8 miles

What did you do to modify the neck?

The earlier 650's had a long/deep filler neck with a flap in the bottom. I removed the flap (as it made it a pain to fill) & used a centre punch to make a couple of holes in the very top, right, rear corner of the neck to allow air to escape & allow more petrol in

PS, drained the tank which had 1.2ltrs, then filled up & got 19.6 ltrs in. Thats after 249 miles.
Fuel gauge hadn't moved from the bottom stop for ages, mind

My worst ever was in morocco on a red hot day (40+). Left Marrakech on the motorway and decided to stay on it. As it was so much cooler at 90mph that's what I did. About 120 miles later the needle was in the red and it took about 16 litres to fill. It was about 30 mpg. I blamed the heat.

LOL. That's a good excuse! I still haven't had the bottle to break the 200 miles yet. Always wimp out at 185/190 mls with the needle firmly on empty. Always manage to only get about 17 l in though. Right, this time, this bloody time!

Did it! 212.6 miles and only took 15.2 litres to fill (was 'flashing' for last 20 miles). I was feeling a little jaded after a bit of a heavy week so took it really easy on my return commute today, managed 64mpg. I think it was the gentle acceleration that made all the difference.

Nope it's a 04 650, which I find rather decent given it was a mix of lower speed forest dirt road, highways, some inspiring whinding asfalt and some town traffic.

Last weekendtrip in Germany.
Slow ,winding and cool forest roads using all the gears but mostly 3th and 4th.
Hot sleepy towns with 50 km speed limit and 90 km speed roads in between.

13,56 liters for 328km ,so still 4 liters left!!!.

And yes thats with my 700.

I should mention I use a 1-tooth higher geared front sprocket.
