W'hay. Just cracked the magic 200 miles per tank. Actually got 202 with 18 l going back in. Sure it started stuttering on the way up the hill to the petrol station though. '07 650 as yet no mods.

Had my tank off so emtpy it out. Did mod to filler neck, refilled with 20.5 litres. Getting that extra 1 litre in will help a heap on my outback trips![]()
Pushed it a bit on Friday at 219 miles going home on the M56 it started splutteringhad just gone past one exit and had about 2 to go before the next exit and petrol station
Had to do a bit of severe weaving and handlebar shaking to get the remnants of fuel left in the tankbut rolled in to the station still going
Got in 19.5 ltrs![]()

Elizabeth Kubler-Ross: Quotes: Adventure
It is only when we truly know and understand that we have a limited time on earth and that we have no way of knowing when our time is up that we will begin to live each day to the fullest, as if it were the only one we had.
Ok, novice TA 600 rider here.
I managed to get 100 miles out of my first "full" tank before switching on the reserve.
It was, admittedly pretty much all at 80mph down the M4 but it's a bit of a limitation!
Basic question: how full should I be filling the tank?
I stopped filling before the fuel reached the pipe from the filler cap. Am I right?
Dunno about miles/tank, but my best is 64mpg, pottering through Scotland. My worst is 27mpg !!!
I usually look for a petrol station when the mileage reaches about 165 on my 650 Alp (I zero the counter when I refill), but a couple of times I've forgotten, got to about 180 or 190, and the bike has started spluttering (first time briefly, second time fairly persistently). Both times I've been thinking I'm going to run out imminently, but when I refilled (within 5 miles both times) I got only about 17.6 litres in the tank. So there should have been nearly a couple of litres left in the tank.
My question is does the shape of the tank and position of the fuel outlet mean that fuel is left in the other side of the tank from the outlet when it gets near the bottom, and you have to rock the bike to get it to the fuel tap? Or is there some other explanation?
I was not looking to 'solve' the spluttering, but just to understand what is going on, and whether I can rely on both the spluttering as a signal that I'm very low on fuel, and that there will be at least some more fuel left when it happens, or whether the spluttering was just purely coincidental or, say, muck in the bottom of the tank.
Are you saying it IS the case that the tank is split at the bottom and on reserve there is fuel 'trapped' on the other side of the tank from the outlet? (I haven't yet had the tank off so I don't know what its underside looks like.)
