Quick Question - Is this Price for a Tyre Right?

Time for a new rear tyre (Trail Wing 130/80 17) for my TA700, only managed about 4000 miles on it, but the front is still good so will run another then consider changing both to a different brand.

I have been quoted £110 for fitting including new inner tube (£15). Does this sound about right? I thought I would only be paying around £80.

Not getting it done until Saturday, so your thoughts would be appreciated

Also, how low do you guys run your tyres, I'm below 2mm so thought time for a change, or should I be running it down lower? Went out in the rain last night and it was a bit slippery, thought was on a bumpy B road.

Sounds a reasonable price if you are letting them remove the wheel too.

Check out some place like Motorradreifen / online auch über / Polo / Hein Gericke / motorcycle tyres pneus pneumatici gomme neumaticos motorbanden mc däck motorrad reifen mp renkaat motorradreifen or ebay for tyre prices. Remember to allow for delivery. Add maybe £10-15 if you take the wheel off yourself, double that if they do it for you. Add a little more if you value your local bike tyre shop and want to support it.

I'd pay £115 to someone if I could ride the bike in and they'd do the work! Otherwise I'd want to pay under £100.

I'd also fit Tourance or Anakee, not Trailwings, though...

I find tyres get nasty under about 2mm, certainly by 1.5mm, I never get close to the legal limit (1mm) as they are so squared off by then.

I pay about £45 delivered for a Distanzia from M&P which I fit myself.
You're paying for ride in - ride out convenience.

Cheers, this is my first tyre change in a long time (changed bikes) so wanted to be sure the price was about right. Yes I am paying for ride-in ride-out convinience but also balancing.

Re: different tyres, am interested but don't want to change my half used Trail Wing front. Any views on mixing tyres? I do a lot of motorway work (I also play at weekends on green lanes etc)

Even better, I've got secure underground parking!

But, I need to update my profile as I am back in the UK for a while, work is an inconvinience necessary to pay for my life in Spain

got my rear changed today,on a loose wheel... new inner tube £7, tyre changed, balanced & disposal of old tyre £13. As a rule of thumb, mixing tyres "they" say the front should always have more grip than the rear.

Re: Quick Question - Is this Price for a Tyre Right?

I always take my wheels off myself as I love to tinker with my machine and I normally service/clean parts that you can't reach when it's on the bike.

Calipers get a good seeing to and I pretty much always clean and oil the shaft/spindle.

None of this will be done by any tyre technician unless you pay them even more.

Only thing about this is that it's a struggle to do if you haven't got a centre stand/paddock stand and it isn't cost effective to buy/fit one.

Loads of continental escapes on ebay for under £130 pair, I've never tried them but at that price I might just give them a go next change
