fitting new screen

Hi,every one,
Just ordered a new screen for my 08 700 transalp and was wondering if the screws holding the old screen in place have captive nuts on the back ? or do I have to remove some plasticks to get at the back of the screws ,

Not sure about 700, but the 650 has rubber grommets with captive nuts in them.

The screws thread into Well Nuts, a brass theaded lump at the base of a rubber "well". Undo the screw fully and take them out, then pull the well nut out by the top of the rubber. If you try to pull them out by the screw they just expand and you wont get em out.

when replacing the rubber bits spray with some silicone spray so they go in a lot easier, or try wd40.

Sometimes when the fittings have been in a long time, the rubber seems to remember the bulge: a bit like a tummy
Before you change your screen, I'd nip down to Halfords and pick up a spare packet of fittings.
I did the silcone trick at first, not anymore, because the b*****rs slip when screwing up.
Make sure you hold the screen against the fairing to make sure the rubber bulges the other side of the screen!

I fitted a tall screen a few months back and came across a few snags along the way including wellnuts sticking and falling throught and losing them. I posted a thread (link below) and got enough answers to see me throught the job without the need to but a new set of wellnuts. Hope it helps.

A lot of the comment here appears to be for earlier models so may not be applicable to the 700.

I have a 700 which I bought new last year and have fitted the Honda tall screen. In fact I ordered it to be fitted from new but when the bike was delivered the dealer said there was a delay on the screens. So I took the bike and decided to fit the screen myself later when they came in.

I had no particular problems doing it, you don't lose any nuts etc. but yes, you do have to remove parts of the plastic headlamp surround. Just follow the instructions and you should be okay. One point which did bother me is that you have to drill two holes in the existing plastic surrounds. I was nervous about drilling holes in a brand new bike but it all went fine.

The screen is a huge improvement over stock, especially in my case as I use an open face helmet but I'm sure would be much better for full helmet users too.

Finally fitted my new MRA screen, did not have any problems at all,
New screen came with new fixing screws & rubber spacers, job only took about ten minuites max,
