Screw in rear tyres

Hi all

I have just noticed that I have a screw embedded into the rear tyre on my XL700V transalp.I haven't tried to take it out yet as I wanted to leave it in there for the repairer to look at and the tyre doesn't seem to have lost any pressure.

Does anyone know what the standard TA tyres are rated as? Does this sound like something that can be repaired with a plug or something like that?

I'll be taking it into a garage at the weekend anyway

as far as I know the alps have TUBED tyres so if yours aint gone down just pull out the screw before it deflates the tyre.-[unscew is the prefaired way as doesnt wreck the tyre]

On tubed tyres when you get a puncture they "usually" deflate rapidly which is quite scary only NON tubed tyres can be bunged with a plug and then only in cetain places andmost places wont do it.

As Tramp has said the TA700 has tubed tyres. Since you haven't lost any tyre pressure it would appear that the tube is still intact.

However, it might be wise to take the tyre off the rim to check how much damage has been caused internally - and also to give the tube a thorough looking at too.

Hopefully it's a short screw and it may not have penetrated the carcass. Only way to tell is to remove the screw and compare against the tread depth.

As already said
take it out asap to avoid further problems.
the screw is probably in the outer surface as opposed to a groove
the tyre thickness is quite thick at this point - hence no damage to tube.
