You are mistaken in saying the oil is not needed to to lube the chain. The 'O' rings are there to retain the original lubricant for the internal bearings of the chain. You also need lubricant between the chain and sprockets (and also to stop the chain rusting).
I've no doubt both Scott-Oilers and fancy sprays can satisfactorily lube the chain. (I use the latter at present. I'll see what I think when the can runs out.) Don't forget, though, the option of the Honda recommended method (Transalp) of simply oiling with SAE90 oil every 600 miles. (Though i accept that this won't solve the origianl poster's 'fling' problem.)
