    Rotting front brake calipers

I have heard about this but not on a TA.

stripped my front calipers ad they were getting very sticky to find the piston seal poking out from the piston like a little hernia. Once I had removed the pistons I could see that the alloy was rotting and a gentle poke with a screwdriver made more crumble away. . there's No point trying to replace the seal.

Any ideas on repair? There was a guy a while back doing caliper refurbs, is the sort of rot he can fix?

Anyone got two spare calipers? Anyone seen any for sale? I am about to start looking.

Next job is clutch, then forks. I fitted SteveR's rear shock as well tonight. Fiddly job and I broke a fairing/tank lug too

Ok found Nick Chambers' web site who does caliper refurbs. I have emailed him so hopefully will get them repaired, refurbed and powder coated fairly quickly. Motorcycle brake caliper refurbishment, Stainless steel brake pistons, Motorcycle brake seal kits, Motorcycle fork refurbishment,

It does mean I will probably have 2x caliper rebuild kits (genuine Honda) going spare.

Some of the parts Honda use have lost the robustness of old.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

I could be interested if they are surplus.

See how you get on with the refurb first

I was going to put a couple of strips of velcro on to stop any rattles. Its off the road due to the brakes at the mo so cant tell how rattly it will be.

I am having difficulty contacting RD-Bitz. No reply to mail or the website's enquiry form so far and the phone just switches straight to answerphone. I hope he is still in business and just away on holiday or something.
