Cost of second ignition key

Hi

If I buy an 04 bike with only one key, what will it cost me to get a spare? I'm assuming it will be expensive, and only available from a dealer, but does anyone know the actual cost?

Thanks.

The key is £17 from Honda. Take it to get cut, then take it back to Honda and they'll charge you half an hour's labour to programme it (c£30). If you leave it with them they'll charge an hour and charge for cutting it too.

The keys themselves aren't much - the cost of a blank and cutting it. David Silver's sells them - have a look there. Its getting the thing coded to your ignition and HISS system that costs. Should be an hour or so's labour as it is a tank off job to get access to the relevant wiring. AFter that I think it is a 5 minute job to get the ignition into coding mode and code the keys. If you are doing one I would get another 2 or 3 done at the same time. I think you can have up to 4 keys coded to the ignition.

Good tip. It costs no more to programme three than one.

That is a Total of Four Keys, if it has the first two registered then you can only get 2 more cut.

I thought that when it went into programme mode it basically cleared the memory of all keys (except the one currently in the ignition) and you could then add up to another three.

Re: Cost of second ignition key

Just had a spare done for my 650V4. Key cost £22, 30 minutes labour for programming (£27), plus £2 for a local keysmith to cut it.

Yep, a total of four keys at any one time.
