    Advice needed on transalp wheels

    Hi and thanks for looking.
i bought a 1995 transalp 600 recently. It had a number of issues[which was why it was cheap!]the motor was good, but it was all a bit tatty around the edges.i have sourced some better plastics ,and a more useable exhaust through the esteemed pages of this forum.
Having talked to a few people i know there has been a problem with corrosion on the wheels, and when i scraped the crud a way,i foud the signs of corrosion on both wheel rims. Now the question is,which is the most economical way to sort out the problem?I don't fancy riding the bike having seen one corroded wheel rim that scared the *!$# out of me. The average price to rebuild with new rims and spokes seems to work out at about £450 for the pair.A lot of dosh for me at the moment!!Has anyone got any good ideas/scources they can suggest. Many thanks,Paul

Ebay, there's usually a few 600 alps on there being broken.
    Part finder search.

Are your's the Gold rims, if so I have a spare front rim which is in very good condition (considering it's a used one), from when I changed my wheels over. It is just the rim, however from reading this site Spoke Wheel Re-building and Truing - webBikeWorld building your own wheels doesn't look that difficult.

The rim is yours for £30 + p&p if you want it, just let me know.

Can you post a couple of pictures, is it surface pitting or the real crumble? isolated areas, or are most of the rims worse for wear? Is it around the spokes? a bit more info and we might be able to alay some fears (or back up your original gut feeling)
