    TA 600 Headlight problem

Before I head to the garage I wonder if the xrv collective wisdom can help.

    Well, my headlight doesn't work.

Hi or low (but the dash indicators all come on).

    The fuse is intact.

The main bulb element looks OK (I think)

The trouble seems to be at the tab at the back of the bulb, which is corroded and the block it connects into has melted where that tab goes in.

(I am trying to upload photos to make sense of all this)

Anyone got any bright ideas of what it might take to repair it?

    Thanks

    looks like a bad connection

    i.e. not clean....

so has resistance and given the old current *current * resistance = watts in the form of heat you get melt down..

in simple terms the current did not light the bulb, but became a heater in the poor connector... clean the bulb contact and replace the melted bit

Probably a bit late now but when you do change the bulb put a 80W Halogen one in. It will make a great improvent on the standard light. (Just dont tell the plod)

Hey it works for me and it wont melt the wiring like a 100W could.

Must admit i can't see many plod saying remove that bulb because you have become too noticable on the road

What would be the difference to point out "Hey look I have an 80 Watt bulb"?

One bulb of 80 watt gives out more light that a 55 watt bulb, but you see a lot of bikes riding around with headlight and 2 spot lights on giving 165 watts of light and no-one complains about those, unless they are maladjusted.
