    Re: Givi/Kappa E21 panniers

I think the other owners have coverd nearly everything ,but yes the Givi E21's are great.

    Plus:
    - there within the handlebar width ,at least on my 700.
    - easy mounting of rack (700)
    - easy on and off
    - you'll get 4 keys and can so keep 3 as spare
    - easy to carry with the build in handles
    - there are absolutly waterproof ,believe me

    min:
    - for me ,even als solo traveller going on a multiple days trips their just a bit to small ,25 or 30 liter would have been perfect ,but than again they would be bigger!.
Anyway i also use a 60 L rollbag (use only half off that) and 45 L topbox and for campingtrips with tent ,sleepingbag ,matras ,cooking gear there all needed.
    - the bottom is slightly rounded so there's less space there than the top. And therefore more difficult to stash the hard (weighty) stuff like cooking gear ,tools etc that you can not compress.
Rectangular ones would make that easyer. Going camping with stuff for two persons they are to small.

Some pics of the stuff i used for my campingtrip to Normandy/Brittany last week.

    Enjoy

Good pictures, I find it suprising how high you can stash them because of the space in the lids.

True ,but than again a flat design would make it possible to tie some things like tent or matras on top. This size rectangular would be ideal!.

    Enjoy

Many thanks, Greyalp.....your pics are really useful. I travel pretty light and also use a roll bag + top box when solo. As for the wife...she'll be given exclusive use of one pannier and if it doesn't fit, then it doesn't go. I live in hope! I've already ordered them and look forward to playing at packing them. I reckon it would be possible to strap a lightweight tent on top of one pannier and sleeping mats on top of the other, even if they're not the ideal flat shape for it. Fuel consumption should be a bit better with curved boxes too.

    Re: Givi/Kappa E21 panniers

Strapping tent on one and sleeping mat on the other is possible. I did tryed that before ,this way you almost win a case back. For me not really necessary ,i even could have put both inside the rollbag but than you have a long sausage sticking out behind you.

The only disadvantage this way is theft!.
As solo traveller i leave the bike sometimes unguarded behind going shopping (for food etc) or seeing sites so i like to keep all my gear locked up inside panniers and top box. For the rollbag i have made a steel cable that goes through ,behind and onder the top box to prevent taking it off. They could cut it open off course but that is extra step. Strapping things on the panniers i haven't found a good way to proteckt them from simply unstrapping them.

As for fuel consumption ,riding 600km back home in rain and heavy head winds there is a difference offcourse. Normaly i refuel at or around every 300 km ,takes around 12 to 13 liter driving highway speeds. Fully loaded with gear and because off the strong headwinds the fuelmeter starts flashing at 250-260km. So riding pillion the consumption will at least increase with one liter ,probably even more.

On your powerfull GS however i"ll guess there will be no change at all!.

    Enjoy

Do you have to re locate the indicators on a 650 TA when fitting the E21 panniers? or do they stop in the original place. Regards Marv.
