    Honda Touring Screen

Just a quick heads up just in case anyone is considering a Honda Touring Screen for the 650TA. It's currently discounted at David Silver Spares at £35+vat+delivery:

David Silver Spares - XL650VY TRANSALP 2000 Accessory touring windscreen

That's somewhat cheaper than the one on ebay at £55 + £9 delivery.

    Re: Honda Touring Screen

If AlanH doesn't mind me saying and it is personal, but I tried the Honda Touring Screen and found the Powerbronze Tall Screen better.
I still had to fit my MRA aero foil bit to it, but it's about the best I've had it.
Yes, I have spent money on two additional screens

    Transalp

I'm finally going to try what some guys have done and add a square piece of screen above the high screen; removing the aero foil obviously. If that's no good, I'll stick with the above combo.

I saw the mixed reviews. Some people like it, others hate it. I thought I'd give it ago and see. If it's not right, expect some bodgers corners posts

It's still £65 cheaper then the £100 I paid a few years back.

    Re: Honda Touring Screen

Just a quick resurrection to this thread as I'm in need of a little advice.
Just bought a touring screen and top box from David Silver-top box fitted no probs-working on the screen now.
It comes with 2 brackets to fit around the outer pair of wellnuts/dash cowl.
I cannot get these to stay in place.
I don't have a childs hands or xray vision and I'm finding the brackets a real bugger to line up and fit.

Anyone had any luck with this?Or just not bothered with them..

I fitted them without too much hassle. If your wellnuts are past their best, it could be awkward pushing them through so maybe get a couple of new ones.

    Re: Honda Touring Screen

    Thanks Alan.
My wellnuts were not well.Got it sorted in the end despite my short fat fingers and losing a bracket inside the fairing....
Top box and carrier done too now.
    Test ride in the morning.
    Tea and bed now.

    Cheers

    Re: Honda Touring Screen

I struggled for hours into the night with mine, finally managing to get an assistant to hold them in place with a thin screwdriver while I tried to work the wellnut body through the hole in the brackets. Much swearing. Finally into place and set off next day for a fw days in Yorkshire. On the way back noticed one of the brackets had jumped off again, but fortunately was still there hooked on the 'dashboard' but in the middle of the screen.

I hadn't been very impressed by the lack of 'fit' between the angles of the bracket and the curve of the 'dashboard' moulding. When I dismantled it to sort out I found the brackets had scratched the dashboard a bit, so before I reassembled I put a bit of self adhesive rubber or foam on the inside of the bracket where it sits on/grips the 'dashboard'. I'm pleaseed with that little mod. Makes them look slightly less tacky, too.

I can vaguely remember working out a slightly easier way of getting the brackets on, but can't remember what it was. I can say, though, that an important trick once you've got them on is NOT to completely undo the wellnuts that hold them when (if) you remove the screen again. The top fixings for the screen (where the brackets are) go through slots in the Honda touring and standard screens, so just slacken them off slightly, undo and remove only the lower two wellnuts (which go through holes in the screen), and slide the screen out leaving the brackets and their wellnuts in place. Fitting is the reverse of that (you have to flex the screen slightly initially to get the slots to align with the top wellnuts when fitting).

I have come to loathe wellnuts, and spend many a happy hour trying to think of something cunning to replace them with. Even having sorted the brackets out, the bottom wellnuts are just as likely to bulge on the wrong side of the screen, and I've never found a way to overcome that.

    Re: Honda Touring Screen

I don't have the brackets with my Honda high screen,,and it's a bit floppy. That may be down to the wellnuts, however. As the originals were a bit deformed (through old age?) I bought some aftermarket ones; they seem to be thinner, though, and don't grip very well (and,as noted above, they tend to bulge on the wrong side of the screen). Fruit Loop... if you come up with a better solution than wellnuts, please tell!

    Re: Honda Touring Screen

I never bothered with the wellnuts or brackets with my screen for the top two. I made up some rubber washers, took the inner cowl off that goes round the clocks and bolted it solidly to the fairing. No wobbles, no bulging wellnuts and no bracket that didn't fit properly or scratch the fairing.

Ok, so if I want to remove the screen I have to remove the inner cowl but it takes all of 5 minutes. Some folk reckon the wellnuts let the screen pop off the fairing if you have a low speed tumble and don't wreck the screen but I'm not convinced. I'd rather have it nice and solid and not be riding down the road wondering if the screen was going to fall off

    Your screen, your choice
