    New (old) TA

Just returned to two wheels on a 1996 TA with a genuine 12,000 miles, it's a wee cracker. Been browsing your forum for reviews, so I knew what I was getting - excellent forum, going to subscribe, it's only fair as I've picked up loads of worthwhile advice here. Only dry riding so far and the Trail Wings seem great, pot-holed B roads no problem, but the whole concept of riding on knobblies in the wet scares me - we'll see, quite fancy the Tourance or BT45. It's taking me longer to commute now, as I seek out interesting diversions at every opportunity. Noticed a couple of oil drips under the breather, would that be expected after blasting about a bit? Anyway it started on second turn-over with a fresh battery after a 2 year hibernation, sailed through its MOT, oil and filter change, Bob's your uncle. Ordered Givi engine bars from Bici, who tell me they are on the way, however I should have Googled Bici first, as there are some seriously negative reviews; fingers crossed. Last bike was a Hornet 4 years ago, so I'm getting slower, but I figure that's no bad thing as I get older.

    Welcome to the forum.
Do post some pictures of your bike when you get the chance.
The Transalp is a great bike, have lots of fun on it.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

    Re: New (old) TA

Welcome aboard, nice to see another local on here.

I was in a similar position to you last year when i picked up a 97 600 Alp with 10,500 miles on it. Fortunately mine came with a load of extra's like the engine bars, but i've still found time to fettle and farkle it a bit more.

    Hi & welcome to xrv

There should be no drips from the breather as it should have a bung in the bottom of the tube, if it doesn't, the engine will be drawing some unfiltered air......

The late 600's are cracking bikes by the way

Close inspection reveals it's not the breather, it's the Scott oiler needing turned down a tad

    Re: New (old) TA

Yes - exactly like my old 600 - same colour and same topbox even!

Excellent bike, no trouble at all. Recommend BT45s, engine bars and possibly bar risers. Watchout for corrosion on the anodized finish on the wheels. Went all the way to Italy on mine - never missed a beat.
