Motad Desert bars - are they worth it?

    hi folks,

i've been looking out for some bars for my '95 PD06.. givi seems to be the easiest to get hold of but some folks saying they're a hassle to fit.

motad desert bars on the other hand look nails.. but not in production anymore..? i've been keeping an eye on german ebay for some. 250-280 euros appears to be the norm.. does anyone have these on a transalp and if so were they easy to fit / worth the dosh?

here's some for an earlier PD06 on ebay.de if anyone is looking for some..

and just as a resource for anyone else.. the difference between the bars for an earlier or later PD06 is the fitting kit supplied.

as explained by this mail from motad (on the v useful ta-deti site)

Re: Motad Desert bars - are they worth it?

I have them fitted and they stand up well as I found out after I got hit by a car a few years back and the result the crash bars took the impact and saved me loosing my leg so I ended up paying silly money for new ones from Germany £250 by the time there where delivered. I must be mad but after seeing them in action I gladly paid.

    Pic 2 After Accident

Pic 4 What ou need to fit them
Pic 5 Instruction to fit them

Hope that helps. Any questions feel free to ask

very helpful mate and glad your legs are ok. were they easy enough to fit? from what i've read if you've got the correct fittings they should be a doddle.

i've written to the german firm who are selling a lot of them on ebay to see if he's got the fittings i need. guess i've got the advantage of living in germany currently with some euros to spend..

Mines a 93 Transalp so should be same fitting. As for living in Germany thats a big bonus since it cost near £100 to ship to UK.

As for fitting there an absolute doodle secured with 3 bolts per bar. If you like I could take some pics of the fitting points if you need?

Hmm just looked at the link of the company selling them thats where I got mine I think and from memory mine was the last set they had aparently?
Also they didnt except Paypal when I bought them only bank transfers but I could be wrong since it was a couple of years ago.
