    Water in my swingarm!

Hi. I was adjusting the chain yesterday and a fair bit of water dripped out from the where the axle nut is located on the swing arm. Has anyone else had a similar prob with their 650 Alp? Surely this isn't normal. Also there is a bit of play at the front of the swingarm. Proberbly the front bearings/bushes? Maybe this is a result of having water in there? The bike is an 07 and when I bought it from Dobles last year I got a years warrenty on it so hopefully they should sort this out.

Are the caps on the end of the swinging arm in upsidedown? They have a notch in the bottom to allow water to drain out.

It's not a case of whether we can fix it or not - it's more a case of how fixed would you like it?

Right. No-one go to Dobles to get there bikes serviced. They are upside down and Dobles put a new chain and sprockets on before I bought the bike. They also didn't manage to put the seat back on correctly after taking my restrictor kit off. Cowboys!
The question now is what damage has that done to the inside of the swingarm? Do you think having water in there would have caused the bearings to go? Is it hollow all the way to the top?
    Many thanks Lutin.

    Re: Water in my swingarm!

The swing arm bearings are located in a casting / tube that is not open to the swinging arm arms, if you know what I mean, so the bearings will not be affected by the water you found. Might be an idea to strip the swing arm & pivots down and inspect the bearings (not a hard job honest Guv ).

The water in the swing arm will possibly have started some corrosion - again, get it off the bike, clean the inside out then coat with either Waxoyl or ACF50 type stuff, to prevent any corrosion progressing and any further water ingress from causing corrosion!

Clear as mud now I've read it back to myself

I would be inclined to spray a copious ammount of WD 40 in there. That will chase any residual water out and inhibit any potential internal corrosion. Damm annoying, I had to take my bike to a main dealer for a recall, they put the side panels back and pushed the gromets out of place. They said there were no gromets there in the first place. I then found one lodged in an area thad had been accessed for the recall. The wiring loom is still not re fitted properly.
If I do pay anyone to work on my bikes it is Ado, who runs ado's motorcycles in Ilkeston Derbyshire. He does all the work himself and has done some very good work including a full engine rebuild on a Suzuki GT750 Kettle that now runs as sweet as a sewing machine.

I've just had another look and the caps themselves have UP and an arrow (should be pointing up I'm guessing!) written on them. I'm gonna phone em now and see what I can get out of them.

I like the sales side of Dobles but they fall short on servicing.
The bearings nowadays come in sealed units so they should be OK, the water should be allowed to drain out of the swinging arm.
I would wait until they have inspected their mistake and rectified it then gain access to each side of the swinging arm and spray copious amounts of waxoyl.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE
