Transalp 700 Chain - definitive length required

The time has come for my Transalp 700 to need a new chain. - but I'm a mite unsure as to the number of links required.

Pretty certain it's 118 links - the official Honda Shop Manual says "Standard Links: 118 links" - but the DID and RK part numbers quoted just below in the Shop Manual give the impression it's 120 links.

So can any one here please clarify the standard length of the chain for the Transalp 700? 118 or 120? Standard sprocket sizes of 15/47.

    Thanks.

I think it is 118. I would be more inclined to go with the Honda figures.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

Assuming your existing chain has been ok for length, mark one link and get counting. simples!!!

    Hi,

It is a 118 and i recomend the DID 525ZVMX. I fitted mine last year with new sprockets and 15000 miles later and adjusted only the once, it's still in great shape.

    cheers

If I remember rightly its 118 links. DID chains come in various lengths (116, 120 124) Hence they reference 120 rather than 118. So you have to get a 120 and take 2 links off.
