Conti Trail Attacks on a 700

    Hi Everyone

I notice on a few threads that 700 owners have manged to get a set of Conti trail attacks on their tubed rims and wondered what Size they went for as I'm darned if I can find a Tubed Tire that in their listings that match the OEM fitments....

I'm no expert in this area TBH and am concerened that putting a tubeless on a Tubed rim could cause complication as well as fitting a tire that doesnt match specs....

FYI I'm looking for greater road grip and an enhanced feel at the rear as I havent been able to fully trust the OEM tyres and they do seem to have a lack of feel compared to what I've been used to.

I like the reports of the Trail Attacks from the post I've read so far and would like to give them a shot...

There's no problem with fitting a tubeless tyre - just remember to fit a tube.

It's not a case of whether we can fix it or not - it's more a case of how fixed would you like it?

Not sure about the Trail Attack, but I'm rather liking the Conti Escape I've now got on the front...

Not sure that helps you much though

Re: Conti Trail Attacks on a 700

Just fitted a set of Conti Trail Attacks to my Alp700! Same size as oem, rear is specifically TT (tubetype) but front isnt though fitting a tube is all thats required - fitter stated the tyre wall is usually thicker on TT tyres as they tend to be designed for off road, so using a non TT offroad with a tube fitted isnt reccomended with lower tyre pressures for instance.

Excellent tyre. Pronounced sides forcornering will exagerate squaring off of the tyre towards the end fo the life and I will come across this before winter im sure, but in the meantine...these things stick like the proverbial, balance really well (no headshakes) and have a nice low noise level.

Very much like BT45s in use, encourage you to corner at speed. Tried out the new throttle cruise control and I left it set on when coming off the A14 onto the M11.....70mph round the slip road corner, all the way over....no problem, just new pants required (user error).

Mileage well tell over time. So far, they dont seem to be running hot like the BT45s yet not cold or short of grip either. Great rain performance and no movement on greasy surfaces so far.

Sidewalls clean up well but its a shame they dont colour their brand name in orange.

I had BT45 on my 650 for few years and was getting about 6500 from a rear. Changed to trail attacks last year and like them, think handling as good as Bridgestones, have done 5000 miles on them now and rear
Hardly run in! Should get at least 10k out of it. Were about £30 cheaper than Bridgestones for the pair.
Had no probs with fitting tube into them either.

    Spoke to soon!

That pronounced sidewall feature is not the best int he wet as it turns out. Ive had the front slide on so many occasions now Ive lost all confidence in the wet.

One greasy roundabout I encounter daily, doesnt allow you to commit fully enought to get onto the sidewall enough for grip, due to the surface being worn and greasy.

On the gas, feeding the throttle on exit, if your not back upright it moves all over the place.

No issues on wet roads at speed, went to London down the M11 in the soaking rain and it never gave me any worries on long fast corners etc, but then I had confidence to lay it over at speed given the road condition.

Now resorted to stop and turn squaring off of the corner which coincidently squares the tyre off even more.

Maybe not the best commuter tyre then...

2up in the dry though, excellent.

Re: Conti Trail Attacks on a 700

Thought id update this for those considering.

Bikes at 32k so I reckon ive done 8k on these already. Rear thread is at 4mm centre with a noticeable but not pronounced squaring off in the centre line after pretty much all motorway type miles, 1inch either side is 5mm still. Fronts about the same.

Only issue im now having at its end of life, is that it seems to heat up a lot in general use, im talking minus1 road temp, cold morning and bikes sat in garage....ride 10m at 75, roundabout, 10m at 75, 2xroundabouts and stop....rear tyre is almost too hot to touch, hotter than my grips. Surely not right. Gotta be due to tubless tyre with tube inside building heat. Wont be fitting these again but ive noticed they dont list them as suitable anymore anyway.

Oh, and they also vibe a lot at the end of life....have done for last fewK....spent ages checking what it was.

Fitted a set to my AT a couple of months ago (tubeless tyres on tubed rims) and love the grip compared to my original front tyre and really old rear tyre (1998 bike with 12k on the clock)! Just remember to order some new rim tape (always makes me giggle childishly) and new tubes and you are away! Great grip on wet and dry roads!

I think I read that the conti trail attacks had the same compound as the road attack 2. I had those on the vtec. They run warm to stick hot too.

They were the same in the damp. A bit twitchy but in heavy rain they were brill
