    Swingarm removal

Have read a couple of threads on here about swingarm removal. Just have one Q however. To get the swingarm bolt out the bike is on its centre stand, do I also need to take any weight off the engine also with a jack or something.
I wasnt going to remove it, but as advised and not knowing how long since it was last greased up I thought as the weather so great !!! I may as well get on with it and clean it all up properly
    Heres hoping

No need to jack the engine. The other mounts will keep it in place while you remove the spindle.

    Have fun

Some people would say heat and lots of it. The only problem being that with the bolt corroded into the spacer (which seems likely), then heating the suspension link will not achieve much as the only heat path from the link to the spacer will be via the two roller bearings. Not very efficient heat transfer.

Last resort would be to cut the bolt. But you would need to make the cuts between the frame and the suspension link so that you could get it out. Not that easy a job I reckon. You would probably need a very thin cutting disk just to get into the gap.

Sorry, not much help am I?

It's not a case of whether we can fix it or not - it's more a case of how fixed would you like it?

Ah, the bolt that seizes into the collar. Classic.

Keep soaking it with penetrating fluid and give it a bash each way on a daily basis (put a nut on the end first).

This is exactly the sort of problem you come across when someone has not dismantled the suspension and greased it for ages either because they can't be bothered or because they fitted grease nipples to the linkage and thought that was enough

If all else fails, hacksaw blade or a small grinder...

I got brutal on the same seized bolt on an Africa Twin, and attacked the threaded end of the bolt with an SDS hammer drill (after soaking the bolt with penetrating fluid). It came out easy peesy.

I had to cut the bolt out of an XT550 which was seized in place, only took me about 2 mins i had a reciprocating saw on the compressor. Saw has very thin blade and cut through effortlessly. Similar to th eone in the link below
