    Better Cruising speed ?

    Hi Guys .
Ive owned my transalp 650 for about 2 months but only did a long journey last weekend , went around North Wales and did about 680 mile ok not huge but enough , loved the bike to bits but is there anyway at all, to make her cruise at 85-90 but more relaxed . Ive read good and bad ref the larger front sprocket. So is there anything else i can do . Cheers Edge

In all honesty, you are expecting a lot from a TA to "cruise" at those speeds. It'll do it but not happily. Bigger front sprocket is ok for pure m'way use but will compromise usability in town and offroad.

To make up for the taller gearing, you could look at Arrow or ABP headers and an aftermarket silencer although that won't help you very much off-road in 1st gear.

If you're looking for 85 to 90mph cruising then, much as I like the TA, realistically a different bike is your best bet. The TA is not about cruising at 85 to 90mph.

Thats definatly the way to go, would imagine you will get better MPG at those speeds from a later varadero.

I didn't want to suggest that as I am looking at a Vara tomorrow and I didn't want to risk putting up prices....

Hello from the USA. You mean you were cruising at 80-90 K per hour, not Miles per hour, right? So you were going about 65-75 mph? How fast are you allowed to go in Wales? I am looking forward to getting my project TA going. I am assuming it will cruise at our normal speeds of 55-70 mph.

I think he was talking mph! TA will cruise all day at the speeds you mention, if you can (or have to) keep to 55mph, it'll be pretty damned economical too I used to find an ideal cruise on my TA m'ways was 75mph with more than enough left for overtakes. I had a high MRA screen which helped a lot.

Yeah we are in england its still MPH here ( we might be run by europe but we still have some of the old system left!!!) and if you stick around 60MPH on a alp you will get about 60 miles to the english gallon --- thats 4.545 litre to the europeans.
