is 55K miles to much for a translap?

As luck would have it an XL650 2003 has come up on ebay just around the corner (if you live where i live you'll know this doesn't happen often), thing is it got 55k on the clock. Just wondering if this is a no no, im away at work at the mo so cant pop round to see the machine. Any tips (this would be my first transalp) on what to look for / check for?
    cheers for now

imho the milage itsefl is not huge milage. I guess it very much depends on how the bike has been looked after during its life.....met someone in London one day on an AT with 120K and happy as a bunny. As far as I know, if looked after well, TA's have same sort of longevity.....not sure what to look for in particular as I have never owned a TA but I am sure some TA owners will be along soon with good tips....

    nope bomb proof

    just check for

    the usual

    head bearings
    wheel bearings,
    chain& sprockets

corrosion .. calipers discs , original can rusts... etc.

output shaft spines, not ussually an issue but worth a look

    good luck

    Hi Turn

I'm afraid you've fallen victim to bikemagspeak. They call that high mileage. But turn it to your advantage and beat the price down, saying it's 'high mileage'. I bought an AT at 70,00 miles for a nice price; it's now on 120,000.

The above posts say it all.

Main things are corroded rims & output shaft for play/wear.
Other than that it's the usual stuff like regular servicing, accident damage, general corrosion/wear & tear, no nasty noises, consumables etc. Check it has 2 keys that turn off the HISS light too.

Mines a 2004 ta650 ..now ha 48k on it just done 2.5k to spain and back , brilliant bikes..some do 100k without anything going wrong..just spend a weekend srvicing and checking the known problem area`s . All listed on the transalp section..

just check the output shaft..and for me check its got genuine honda rubber front sprocket..lots of dodgy bikes out their bith low and high mileage..ask on here if in dowt as there is a few members up your way who`d gladly help out..

and mine gets well abused on the trails for the last 3 years now!!

mine is is on 101,000 miles and is fine if a bit grubby and worn looking. At 55k it was even better with everything still tight and sweet. I took it to morocco and the clock went over 50,000 while there. As long has its had about the right level of servicing and a somewhat sympathetic owner it could be a really good buy. Good luck with it

It's not so much the mileage, it's the overall condition and how well it's been looked after. It does look a bit tired but on the other hand it is only £1k.
