    XL600V clutch kit

Hi, Im about to change the clutch on my bike, but Im not sure which one is the best (for affordable price).
I found this: Honda-XL-600-VH-VX-Transalp-87-99-EBC-DRC053-Clutch-Kit. What is your opinion, is this worth the money? Do I need anything else or everything is included in this kit? I do appriciate any other suggestions too
    Thanks!

update: I found another one for half price from US: Sumo clutch kit. Is it a well-known brand or a noname product?

Both of those kits look very expensive when compared to a genuine Honda clutch kit from David Silver Spares. Remember that the revenue will be looking for their cut for anything imported from the states.

It's not a case of whether we can fix it or not - it's more a case of how fixed would you like it?

    Thanks for the quick reply

I did my homework, went to the David Silver's website, but haven't found any clutch parts for the Transalp. Should I call them?

By all means give them a ring, they are very useful types. If you search on your bike model (XL600V) then year you will be presented with a list of parts. For instance choosing to search on model: XL600V then year: 1992 brings up this page. The clutch kit is about 1/3 of the way down the page.

I did the same, but it looks like I was too tired, because I missed that clutch kit.
    Thank you so much!!!

One more thing, the description says: "Kit includes high quality Japanese replacement friction plates, Genuine springs and clutch cover gasket". Do I need anything else?

That, I'm afraid, can only be discovered by dismantling the clutch. As long as the plain steel plates are not warped or "blued" by heat, then they should be fine to be put back in. Is this clutch change being done as part of a full engine strip down or because of clutch slip? Have you had the bike long? Or do you know its history? The only reason I ask is that several cases of clutch slip have been successfully cured by replacing the engine oil with the correct grade of motorcycle oil. Car engine oils have "friction modifiers" that will lead to clutch slip - cars, in general, do not have wet clutches as bikes do. Just thought I'd ask.

You need a new clutch hub nut. It can only be locked in place with a punch one time. Also pay close attention to the order and orientation of the parts as they come off. See my previous thread about the clutch plates. And do not over tighten the springs. The Haynes manual gives the torque settings, about 8 lbs, not very tight. I overtightened the springs on another bike and the clutch did not work.

    Re: XL600V clutch kit

    Thanks for the info!
I already replaced the oil few weeks ago (manufacturer recommended motorbike oil), but the clutch is still slipping,
so I have no choice, but replace the clutch too
