Engine from a AT to a TA.. Is it possible ?

    Hi,
I just decided last year to run my Transalp completely out of oil... not on purpose..

Quick explanation of my idiocy.. Drove last year at full speed and pressed the old lady beyond all limits on a trip to Vordingborg, to participate in the Danish championship in Enduro (not on the Transalp) At the race, I broke my wrist and had to leave the race.

But time passed and the arm was whole again, and when I was able to ride the Transalp again.. Well, then I forgot all about the wild ride to Vordingborg. When I press the bike so hard, I know very well that it uses oil, but I had forgotten all about it, because of the broken arm... So when I was able to ride it again, it rattled a lot. But I had earlier that year cracked a bolt that held my aluminium mud shield in place, so I actually thought it was that, that made the noise..I was tired of the noise and removed the mud shield.. After that, it was even noisier and I could notice that the oil warning light did not work and my engine was ran out of oil and destroyed..

I have found a XRV650 RD03 engine from 1989, and wonder if its possible to built over on the Transalp.

Has anyone tried to move a XRV650 RD03 engine into a XLV600 PD06 ? .. Does it fit right over, or must I make a lot of modifications?

I will begin to separate the Transalp along during this week, the engine has go anyway. If anyone has any advice, experiences or tips and tricks or anything, please let me know.

    Many greetings
    Trine

Y'know, that engine you've got is worth a lot more than an Alp 600 engine which will go straight in.

Not so sure that the RD03 engine will......

    So guess what I'd do?

    1992 TA600 Silver/White , Givi Bars, Rails. 1997 DR350,acerbis tank....Ready.
    It's not a mid-life crisis....I dunno what it is.....

Actually i didnt know.. BUT.. I only have the engine and the Alp. You see the danish taxsystem taxes the registration fee 180%. I bought the Alp in 2008 used for 23000 dkr. thats 2400£.
A brand new bike like BMW GS F800 costs 163500 dkr. or 17200£

So you see, the Alp is getting a new engine, and its a RD03, just hope it will fit. And it will then be the only Transalp in Denmark with a RDI03 engine
I found the RD03 cheap and with 58000 km on the clock, Its not possible to find a Alp engine here in this very small and expensive country called Denmark, and if I did, it will probably cost... a lot... Yes, I could find a engine on Ebay, or go to Sweden/Germany to find a donor bike, but in the end, it will way to expensive, more than the RD03 engine cost me.

The RD03 has an upper rear engine mount (as do Bros & all AT), none on TA 600 or TA 650, head exhaust ports are different angle so modify headers or use AT/Bros headers, electrics similar but are advance curves different, Think pickups are located differently in engine. There was an article on fitting a TA 650 engine into a TA 600 that highlights some of the problems, but not the rear mount. not sure which site it was on.

Hawk is a US market Bros, the 650 versions are similar to the RD03 in terms of fitting into frame, level of tune carbs etc are different.
