    Thinking of selling my TA

I've been umming and arhing for a while, plus the old craziness is kickng back in
I've spent so much money on my R65, I now have two great bikes, but both do a similarish job.
So, thinking about getting a single air cooled trailie. The craziness mentioned is because it drives me crazy when doing tappets on the Transalp.
Yes, yes, I know it is not every day and I did them last week and six hours later, none needed doing.

So, what about price? What do you think? I've got some ideas, but here's a bit of info to give you an idea:

    Transalp 2006 V6
    28,000 miles
I would sell 'Sold as seen' to cover myself legally, but I can tell you that it runs perfectly and faultlessly and took the two of us round Portugal last year and Germany before that.
    New battery last year.
New fork oil last week, upping it to 7.5 weight and a tiny spacer. It doesn't seem to noticeably improve handling, but what it does stop is that annoying dip when you tap the brakes at low speed.
New tapered head bearings about 1000 miles ago, so you won't be touching those for a while
In last week's service, new plugs and air filter fitted.
It has Touratech, I think, crash bars.
The screen is all drilled and a mess, but it works or you can replace it.

ADDED - the clock has stopped working.

The paint is peeling from the front mudguard and a bit of rust along where the rear brake hose goes, but, as I am a massive advocate for ACF50, you shouldn't find much more.
A Honda top box is included. It has four holes in the top where I had a rack fitted, which I am keeping.
It has Give racks, but no panniers.
I have Nonfango panniers fitted and could include subject to price.
New rear pads not a million miles ago and spare front ones will be included.
There is a crack in the side panel, it was there before I got it 20,000 miles ago.
The rear left indicator stalk split 20,000 miles ago. If I used it off road, I'd fit Dommie ones.
    Mainstand of course.
    Here's an idea of condition:

Here's the racks modified to take my panniers; NOTE this mod is totally reversible:

    You will regret selling it!

That old airhead has taken your mind over I know Iv'e been there! best idea is to kick the alp into the long grass for a while and not ride it.

You know by now that you could let the valve clearances go a while longer, I will bet anything if
you ride the BM regular you will spend as much time rebalancing the carbs. As for singles with any power
your money will disapear on chains and your time adjusting them.

Ah yes the fork dive, that was the big let down (sorry for the pun) on the alp when I first got it, but I cured that with fork valves they took some sorting but I got there, and got to admit they are nowhere near the standard setting.

As for cash value ---- not enough in todays depressed economy! hang on to it! (says he who has just bought two more old airheads!!)

Re: Thinking of selling my TA

Stop playing with my mind T Alp
That's probably why I keep my gauges near my bike gear! I've balanced my carbs sooooooooooo many times, but at least once you've ridden the statutory 15 miles minimum, the balance is a 5 minute job.
I know it's a mental thing I have, but the thought of having to get to the carbs in a hurry on the trannie bothers me. I know the chances are it could be 30K more miles before I worry, but maybe it is a crazy biker thing of changing bikes. I thought I was getting better I've put 21K on the bike in two years, bearing in mind I've ridden other bikes and cars in that time, so I have used it; justify justify......

Actually, if I left the crash bars off, that would make servicing times much quicker.

Every time I ride the Trannie, I appreciate it is a cracking bike....AAAAAAAAAAAhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh my head!!!!

I know the old adage, if you don't know what to do, do nothing..............Aaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh my head

Here T ALp, look at this My Tenere

But maybe you are right about the crazy biker thing wanting to change bikes, I used to suffer terribly with that fever Iv'e never had malaria but its got to be far worse than that!

    MPDs? only joking

Seriously though being a knakkered old fart I carn't do many miles these days and have thought in the last year I might sell my alp and just stick with the old BMs for the occasional ride, BUT what I like about the honda is RELIABILITY not a big mileage 19,000 at eight years old but touch wood NOTHING has gone wrong with it.

Wether its five mile or five hundred mile away from home a breakdown can be a real PITA depending how and when it happens.

Back in the seventies I was probably one of those people who got to saying bikes were now so reliable they were boring! well not now its my main consideration!! so the honda stays with me untill I pack in biking.

And yeah when the change fever hits I have thought about the BMW GSs but when rationality returns I just think I would'nt touch one with a barge pole! --- something to do with RELIABILITY!!

Re: Thinking of selling my TA

I think a big chunk is change fever.
Five months ago, we were all made redundant. It has taken me five months to find a job; damn it's hard out there.
Anyhoo, my old job round trip was 56 miles, the new one is 16 miles round trip
I do have the car as well, but still don't want to break down.
I am looking forward to a decent overseas trip on the BM and am probably looking for a single bike to enjoy, a little fiddling and still to ride.

Re: Thinking of selling my TA

Ah yes the work place, its in the past for me now and I feel sorry for most people who are (with the exception of those high up in the banking world who if they had done what they have done say in russia not too long ago would have been stood against a wall and splattered)
Oops am forgetting this is a bike forum ---- apologies to all (except bankers)

Anyway sounds like you are getting near a decision, and as phil w said lifes too short.

Hope you get a good trip on the BM, furthest I got on my first a R60/5 was 1980 bol dor 24hr at paul ricard near bandol in the south of france, a fantastic ten days. Then later 1989 what was yugoslavia on my ex. police R80RT. And apart from hearing a bearing spinning in the gearbox casing on the R60/5 in the heat of france no reliability problems, so hope that bodes well for yours
