Alan,
That will be a test of your self-control![]()
I tend to be heavy handed but I safely get 175 which is my normal refil point - I recently got 185. I did wonder whether I could have got to 200.
I have a roll of bubble wrap if anyone's interested.

What is the "short seat" and how can I tell which one I have fitted.
I have ridden other bikes in the past with nothing more than a piece of camping mat as a seat (laverda Monty) that was more comfy than this seat.
Has anybody got an old seat base for a 650ta that I could recover and use some firmer foam.
presume short seat is lower seat for short people like me - honda accessory @ £55 and is 30mm lower than standard. available from 2004. is definately better for seat height challenged, though is at the cost of lost padding.
Hi all![]()
I suspect that the overall opinion is that the alp seat is very comfy - considering the amount of posts re changing the XRV seat.
Given that most alp drivers have the normal seat I suggest that your level of comfort/pain is probably more related to whether or not you are
A) Bony Arsed
or
B) Fat Arsed
So the people who complain - have you all got Bony Arses?![]()
Are the fat people stereotypically jolly/happy with their seats?![]()
Cheers

Pain threshold for me on the alp is 1 hour, but I came from a bike I could sit on all day with no discomfort, so it can't only be a bony arse...
the previous owner was bigger (fatter) than me & I'm wondering if the foam is just squashed ?
Several Alps did TLD08, 09 and 10 without complaint. I did 09 on mine and seriously didn't have an ache at the end. This year I took the Pan and though it's like sitting on a sofa, my shoulders ached like they wouldn't on the Alp.
The standard seat is just dandy. I suspect yours may have been jiggered about with.
I fill up about 180. It took me a long while to ignore the fact the gauge had fallen below red and keep going past 150.

I did TLD this year on mine and returned on Sunday getting home early hours of monday morning and I had no problems with the comfort of the seat.
I think it is a tolerance thing, I've been doing 200 miles each Friday and Sunday to commute to a course I am on for work. At first I was stopping every hour or so but now after 7 weeks I can manage 2.5 hours or 150 miles before I stop and fill up.
As an aside, I remember wearing cycling shorts under my leathers when I had my VFR to improve comfort![]()
