    Dominator

So whats the differance between a Transalp and the Dominator.

I have found a Dominator going cheap for sale and was wondering what they were good for?.

Tiny little difference is that the Domi is an air-cooled single cilinder instead of watercooled V-twin.
It is a more rugged bike, loads of fun, great in the city / small roads but a bit less practical / allround than the Alp, esp if you do loads of miles and/or motorway. Dominator is easier to handle and less brittle off-road, although it is still more a road-bike than a sports-offroader. It is an excellent 2nd bike / vehicle, but if you are looking for a "do-it-all" daily means of transport go for the TA.

If you can afford it as a trail riding second bike then go for it. I went trail riding with some mates on Dominators and they just kept going even on really rough stuff.

    See the following

I would get one as a second bike if i had the money lying around and i could find one for sale.

Had a G reg Dommie: similar power but only felt good under acceleration.

    Nice and simple though.
Good town bike but not as good a tourer.

I just picked up one for £700, been looking for a do it all 2nd bike with view to a long tour taking in some off road / rough track for a long time.
thought the transalp too complicated to fix along way from home - dommy 650 lump is un-stressed and I hope will go on forever!

    Re: Dominator

I had a Dommie and had not complaints with it although I only used it for an 11 mile commute. Definately uncomplicated to work on & very reliable. I now have a TA to do the same job and this has a larger presence on the road and feels like a bike that you could spend a lot of time on with no trouble or aches.

Bottom line is that they are both great bikes it just depends on your needs as to which is most suitable.
