    The Lake District

    Hi All

I'm planning to travel to/through the Lake District for a day or two over the weekend ... me and my TA!

What are the not to be missed routes/sights?

    Thanks

As above, hardknott and wrynose pass, AWESOME totally mad piece of road, i stayed in a village outside keswick called braithwaite. Lovely place and a top pub (royal oak) the road up to the winnlatter forest park and stay on this route will bring you out in cockermouth, just keep riding to the sea at whitehaven, sellafield brilliant roads.
Oh and have a pint o jennings cockerhoop.

Kirkstone Pass is worth a look too...and theres a nice pub at the top too

Dunno if it runs all year round, but theres a nice little ferry that goes across Windermere from Ambleside. £1 for bikes, and it puts you where you need to be for the Hardknott and Wrynose.

Berker Fell is a lovely fast sweeping road too. Enjoy

Spades... welcome to the site my friend....

If you are travelling from Bristol and using the M6 I would suggest leaving the m/way at J36 and head west to the A590 ... at Newby Bridge you can choose to explore The Grizedale Forrest using its pretty little track/roads or carry on to Spark bridge and pick up the A5084... this will take you to Trover and along the shores of Coniston... A593 North from coniston will take you to the start of the Wrynose pass (nr Little Langdale) .... I strongly recommend you ride the Wrynose and take the route leading to Hardnott and visit the roman fort.....

try at all costs to avoid using the A591 ....... It snarls with cagers and white vanners all day... the more interesting site are all on the back routes.... explore and enjoy my friend.... and take lots of piccies for us all to see....

PM me if you want extra info on routes/camping ect....

ps... Im pig sick that your going and not me...

    Re: The Lake District

If you're heading over Hardknott and Wrynose just check the weather before you go, they have water running down them most of the year which freezes quite easily and with those inclines can get a bit interesting! temps here in Kendal are supposed to be just above freezing at night at the weekend so will likely be below 0 up there. Probably best leave it until the afternoon to let things thaw.

The Autumn colours in the Lakes this year are the best I've ever seen, (lived here all my life) slightly passed their best but still stunning, especially as it's supposed to be sunny.

The must see in the lakes for me is Wast Water, seen it hundreds of times and is still stunning every visit. Best in the afternoon with the sun streaming down the valley (if you're lucky!)

Have a fantastic trip and let me know if you (or anyone else on here) need reccommendations for accommodation etc. I used to work for the tourist board and have photographed hundreds of hotels, B and Bs etc over the years.
