    Scandinavian countries?

I would really like to take a trip next year on the bike to one of the Scandinavian countries, especially Norway. The only thing that's putting me off is the "horror" stories I've heard of how expensive the cost of living is in these countries e.g £6.00 minimum for a glass of beer.

I was wondering if anyone has visited Norway and could give me an idea of what the cost of visiting there really is.

I would be staying in b&b's, hostels if they are reasonably comfortable.

    Thanks for any advice.

cbrpaddy did something similar - might be worth getting in touch with him.

Hi, did Denmark Sweden and Norway Sept this year, Norway is not cheap, it was costing me £15/£17 just to camp. If you eat out of super markets and avoid staying in hotels ect its not to bad. Bottom line except for Denmark (much the same as UK) Scandinavia is expensive. Don't let that stop you though do it once and run away. Its worth the tick.

while I was in morocco I met a couple who had toured 33 European(ish) countries - including Russia and Ukraine and some other very eastern europe countries. Anyway they said Norway was one of the best in terms of scenery, roads, cleanliness and all that. They never mentioned costs though.

BTW their top place in was Albania - partly because it was so surprising and because it still had that adventurous feel to it. Plus scenery, roads, friendliness etc etc. I think they plan to try and set up sort some of business running bike tours there.

The place they liked least was Russia. Food, roads, housing, poor quality of evreything, intimidating, got lost loads, whole experience poor.

    Re: Scandinavian countries?

done Norway,Finland and Sweden a few years ago and yes things are noticeably dearer.. if you intend to go out on the piss, eat in restaurants and stay in a hotels every night then best get an overdraft before you go as these sorta things were VERY expensive. on the flip side as Austin said the scenery is amazing, whats more its such a contrast in winter to summer.....some of the most stunning sites i have seen have all been from these countries! eg wideness roads of the 1000 lakes in Finland in summer and the fog on Lake Mjosa rising like steam in the sunlight at dawn... toppppppppppppp place!!

We have many members from Sweden/Norway in the xtz owners club (super tenere)and they often post up some great rides...... from the UK site, a great thread on winter in Finland!
