    Khyam McKinley Tent info.

    Hi all.

We're looking for a new tent this year as our old Vaude is about shot. We're looking at Khyams and fancy the extra room in a McKinley over the Biker but their stated pack size of 84cm long is a tad much for how I want to stash it. Could anyone tell me if that is the length of the poles or will it roll up a bit shorter?

    Cheers, Jon.

Thanks for that. If we get the Biker I was going to strap it on top of a pannier with the bags and mats on the other side.

    Cheers, Jon.

Hi Jon,just been away for two weeks with the larger McKinley tunnel.I had it across the bike with Touratech Boxes on and it came half way across each box.Looking back now i wished i had bought the Biker.Hope this helps. The large porch is good for cooking in if the weather's bad.
    Cheers Mick

I got the biker as well and must say its the best tent i ever owned. We used it last year on our trip to scotland where we had 10 days of rain but the tent was superb.Have a look at my vara in my sig as you can see the biker on the back.
the porch is just brilliant to store your gear or to cook in.I will post a few pics when i get home from work so you can have a look at the space in the tent as well as the porch bit.Another good point is the porch has 2 entrance points.Good for summer as well when the wind blows to strong from the one side you can open the other entrance which will be a bit more protected

    Hi Mick.

Thanks for the reply. I went down a different route in the end. I had a look at some Khyams, not the biker though, in our local(ish) shop, Taunton liesure at Exeter, and couldn't get excited about them. I think after years of cycle camping with really light weight stuff they seem a bit, I dunno, odd. The sales guy there hoiked out a Eureka Bighorn, aye aye missus etc. I'd seen Eureka tents on line but had always been put off by the really naff name. Turns out they've been making tents since God was a lad and do some decent gear.

    http://www.eurekatent.com/company/history.aspx

They did a blinding deal on two 2007 tents, a Bighorn 3 and 4 (my wifes mum and dad needed a new tent too. Combined age 144 and still biking. Cool eh?).
We've put both tents up a couple of times at home to get used to them and they seem bang on. Loads of headroom and a seriously big porch. Chuffed.

    Cheers, Jon.
