    Scenic routes in Scotland

    Hi all,
I am planning a trip to Scotland and I would like to get any suggestion about scenic routes in that country. I am Italian and this is my first time in UK and my only information are given by books and internet so it would be great if I could get suggestion from bikers like me !
Then I am thinking to visit the Highlands going from Inverness directly to north towards Alness, Colaboll, Tongue leaving the eastern side (Thurso) out because some friends of mine told me that is less interesting than the west side of Highlands, is this true ?
    Thank you for any suggestion.

The Western side certainly is the best for scenery in my opinion, anywhere from Tongue westwards is glorious. If you can definately ride the A82 from Inverness past Loch Ness (how can you go to Scotland and not visit Loch Ness) and keep on it all the way to Loch Lomond (just stunning).

A few pics to get you in the mood:

Let's know about dates etc and I'm sure some of us up here will be able to show you some decent roads. We're spoiled for choice and the best ones are off the tourist routes.

Oh that is easy,, get out of the cities and you are on a scenic route. Scotland is a stunning place almost anywhere you go.. the smaller the road the better.

The West coast is superb. Any route you take up the west coast will be great.

There is loads of great single track stuff as well as faster roads. Not a lot of traffic once you get past Fort William.

It's rude not to take the pass of the Cattle over to Applecross too.

I can give you details of some routes I've done if you're interested.

Here's the pics from my last trip.

I've been playing in Scotland again...

How long have you got ?

There is stunning scenery, stunning fast roads, stunning twisty single track roads, pubs, capmsites and B & B.

I recon a week, you could cover most of it.

Not forgetting the outer isles, both west and north.

Er, hang on... Are people saying the East coast is a bit dreary?

Me & my brother are planning to ride all along the coast from Newcastle, up and then down to the Isle of Skye.

Should we bother with the East coast, or just go straight for the West?

How long are you up there for? The West is the best by far. There's so much to explore too.

As for the weather, don't be surprised if it pisses down. It usually does when I'm up there.

May I suggest you do the Hardknot Pass in the Lake District on the way up and the over the Cattle Road to Appplecross, (terrifying!) in Scotland

Surely England and Scotlands best roads?

The Pass of the Cattle is good, and has fantastic views on a clear day.

I wouldn't say it's the best stretch of road though.
