    Re: noob touring

thanks stu for the info,to be honest having looked at cost's to ship bikes back & forth across the water (prob 2k total),i have also been reading as many reviews as poss,so now planning to buy in us,loads of bikes on advrider forum(sorry mods,it is a us forum),& sell it when us trip ends......and then buy another bike (prob a gs,just 'cos theres loads out there) when i get back to blighty, and then head south thru europe, prob end up in cyprus, then see what i feel doing from there.
thought about buying in the us as they seem to be so much cheaper & keeping it for the whole trip (us & euro),but given the current political climate, dont think i fancy riding about with a yank plate on bike (might as well stick a target on my back)
stu, dunno what im gonna do with the xr at mo,i keep looking at it longingly (is that a word),but if i decide to sell,u get first dibs.
dave, unsure at mo bout at's,i luv em but theres so many other good machines out there at the mo.......i'll call you for some info on the bike.
thanks again guys, non bikers will never understand the cameraderie that comes riding two wheels........they dont know what their missing

    Alright Tackle,

You still this side of 'the big pond'? Or are a wandering state side soul?

If my job prospect's take another dive by end of year, I just might join you. Was supposed to be out on my ar5e, October 1st. But still hanging in there. Crunch time again December 31st. Happy fooking New Year!!! Should be a basic right to job security.

Trust me to go an' work for a poxy Yank bank

    Re: noob touring

    Hi Mark,

Give us a call anytime after 2pm. I'm a night worker so asleep 'til then

I did my adventure during March & October way back in 1989. Jeez! Nearly 20 years back. OMG!

As you are planning, I also kept to the southern states during early part. Still managed to travel in minus temperatures and snow in New Meixco though. Left Sante Fe in deep snow heading due south, and within 200 miles, ended up riding in mid eighties. In teeshirt only type of weather. Kewl! I mean, well, hot...

I know Greatstone & Littlestone too. We often visit Dymchurch or Dungeness. My girlfriend would grant any man his sexual fantasy just to live in a converted carriage at Dungeness. She's a strange creature for sure. Woman eh? "Can't live 'em. Can't shoot 'em", as my dad used to say.

We're up in Swanley. I live within a mile of Canada Heights. I can see the track from my bedroom window. And just four miles to Brands too.
    Ain't I a lucky boy

    Hi Mark,

Real sorry not getting in contact with you recently...It's been a sob story/hard time for all my family as my brother in law is in hospital at present.
Then we travelled to Congleton (Cheshire or Derbyshire?) to visit friends.
Then I've had this horrendous cold that seems to hang on and on and on.

    But enough excuses......

Will call you wednesday evening if convenient? Don't forget I work night too. So not always appropriate for me to phone you at certain times

    Cheers
    Stuart

buy a harley when you get there you get near enough back when you sell it and remember the yanks dont like rice burners watch your insurance as it can change the validity from state to state as believe it or not your licence can .enquire at american embassy over here they will send regs out to you. bring plenty of harley stuff back and it more than pays for the trip .hope you are over 21 as you cant drink till then

    My two pennies worth.
Met a guy recently; an american, he shipped his bike out of Canada.
Far cheaper than the states and you do not get the " It must be a bomb" brigade onto you. It was quick, reasonably cheap and easy.
Only problem is, I can't remember any more than that. XRDave might be able to furnish more info; I'll send him this thread.
