Proberbley about five days and would tavel lodge/ hotel as it would be too cold too camp.At what time of the year do the midges start to come out.

With regards to "How cold can it be in March", I often go up in April and have often been driving in snow even at that time of year.
If you want I can put a list together of B&b's along any given route.
West coast is better than east coast for good biking roads but sometimes the road less travelled can be just as nice.

theres not a lot to see at john o groats in fact its a bit of a dump you would be better going up the west coast to cape wrath great roads . might still be a bit nippy in march , the end of april would be better , dont worry to much about the midges if thay get really bad at night just stay in the pub
