Me and a mate are thinking about a trip up to scotland and make for jon o groats in march. Would it be too cold and best left till later on in the spring. If so when is the best time to go?

The midges come out around end of April beginning of May. A good source of cheap B&B's is

    http://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/index.html

You can click on any part of the homepage map and it will allow you to choose a town or area and it will give you a list of places to see, restaurants, B&B's, camp site's and just about anything else you might wish to locate while you are up there.
With regards to "How cold can it be in March", I often go up in April and have often been driving in snow even at that time of year.
If you want I can put a list together of B&b's along any given route.
West coast is better than east coast for good biking roads but sometimes the road less travelled can be just as nice.
