    Insurance within EU

Any of you lot know of a european insurance company that will cover the purchase of a motorcycle in one member state, the motorcycle to then be ridden (exported) to another member state, imported into the insureds resident state?

As in - I wanna buy a bike in the UK and then (after the thaw and the weather warms up) have the fun of overlanding it to Malta ...
    Maltese insurers can't provide cover.

Do any of You know of an insurance company who can?

    Thanks

Not exactly the same situation, but I bought my TA in Northern Ireland and "exported" it to the Republic (Southern Ireland).

My insurers were Carole Nash. Explained what I wanted to do and they replied the just needed to know the new registration number once I had it re-registered. So, just a phone call sorted it for me.

It's not a case of whether we can fix it or not - it's more a case of how fixed would you like it?

Similar to Lutin, I bought my AT in the UK and brought it back. Quinndirect had no problem they said their UK underwriters would provide the cover. Maybe if you get domestic insurance to cover you in Malta and then International insurance (AA / RAC) to cover the period you will be travelling outside the jurisdiction?

    Thanks Guys,

International Rescue ... Insurance through the AA or RAC ... Golly ... I shall check out those two venerable institutions immediately!

But before I do, shall chip in with my praise for the Emerald arm of Carole Nash, whom, last summer, quite helpfully and no botherly insured me to buy and try a Transalp for one week whilst I was on the IoM for the '08 ManxGP.
Natch, my first go on an Transalp was a revelation.
Moved to Malta, and within a week became the owner of another 'alp.

aaah ... if only all else in life were so simple

    Regards

Could you not buy insurance for the time you are in the EU states then when you get to malta insure there as normal.
I am sure you can insure for short periods.

    Oh no you don't

    Asked dayinsure.com

Q: Can I buy insurance to export a motorcycle to the EU?

A: No. Exporting of vehicles cannot be insured on this type of short term policy.

    NOT TO GOOD MATE!!!!
Can,t remember which one i used and to tell you the truth i don,t think i told them i was leving UK just wanted to get covered quick and short term maybe i was wrong and lucky i didn,t get stopped over this side mind you it was only 9hrs on French roads and then got Ins. here. Only other option is to get 12 months UK and cancel when you get home and claim the other 11 months back, most good Ins Co give you 30/45 days european cover free.
Have you looked at all the sort term offers?
Either way call in if your passing Phil
