    Wales - suggestions??

Well, not a lot of input there - must have been something I said.

Accommodation now sorted (miles from where I'd originally planned, but looks good) - still looking for suggestions of good scenic roads in mid-Wales, if anyone cares to offer same.

Roll on the sunshine (ever the optimist!)

    Cheers,

Loads of good roads in the area, the type of bike will influence the response to what is a good road!

Newtown to Llandrindod Wells (A483) is good, the main drag into mid Wales from Shrewsbury has too much HGV traffic to be fun these days until after Llangurig. Lots of good stuff in and around the Beacons. The run into Snowdonia from Welshpool(A45(A470) is a nice ride, over Dinas towards Dolgellau and then Betwys y Coedis always fun though over policed at some times.... Trawsfynnd to Corwen has some nice stretches too(A4212)

Llanidloes north past the Clywedog dam is a nice gentle scenic ride.

Have fun and pray for sun!

Steve R: Thanks for those suggestions - I'll need to study the map and try and fit some of them in.

Sharrie: No apologies needed! It sort of came together in a rush, and I was just fishing for ideas. We're coming down on Friday, staying near Felindre on the Black Mountain Friday & Saturday night - maybe Sunday, too, if the weather's reasonable (depends largely on what June thinks of a full weekend with the bike!).

We want to see the kites at Gigrin, probably on Saturday, so might have a run round the Beacons first, then Rhayader for 2-ish (feeding time, apparently), an hour or so there and back to the ranch. Beyond that, totally disorganised - maybe a run north-west to Snowdonia on the Sunday, if it stays fair, or maybe just "round and about". No plans for anything "off-tarmac".

    Ideas welcome!

    Cheers,

    Cheers,

The road from Rhayder across the mountain to Cwmywstyth is almost like trail riding on tarmac and great on a nice sunny day too. THe run around the Eland Valley dams is pleasant too.

If your going Rhyader and then Cwmystwyth then you should go all the way to Devils Bridge for a coffee and cake.

Take in the Elan Valley reservoirs as Steve as said, they are gorgeous.

It's worth popping down then to the harbour at Aberaeron, and getting some fish and chips in the chippy right on the sea front.

Sorry Butt , never saw this either. My advice is, get your map out and study. Mid Wales is a fair ground attraction in terms of fun roads. Look at a town eg Builth Wells and look at the main road to Brecon, then cross it out and find the B road to it and take that. You will not be dissapointed in taking the smaller roads and it will give you a far better sense of riding the country
