Dambusters

Hi, I am thinking of taking a run to Germany to have a look at the dam that was made famous by the dambusters in the 2nd world war

Has any one visited the area ?

Or stoped over around this area,

Thanks,
Ian.

Re: Dambusters

Did my bike test around the Mohne Dam a few years back I stayed at barracks in Soest and if I remember rightly quite picturesque but would rather go down Southern Germany by choice

I have not been to the dams but I would prefer the south of the country.

Re: Dambusters

The Mohne is about an hour away from me if I take shortest direct route its great, flat for the first half hour then just drops into the valleys I still haven't been to the other two 1May is a big bike meet at the Mohne bridge so I guess I'll take a run down for a Frikadele

April is out of season and unless your planning to visit over Easter there are loads around the area, even without planning you will find somewhere, bikers are made welcome everywhere around that area with cafes more or less competing for biker custom
check out a few links

Google maps link
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&tab=wl
A = Wolfsrevier a small cafe that is allways packed with bikes and serve the best Frikadele
B = pub Hotel with a BIG biker friendly a atmosphere
C = Cafe owned and run by bikers for bikers
if you chose a lake view hotel you will pay more but believe me there are loads around the area

Let me know when your over

Re: Dambusters

A quick update, went out yesterday for quick run with Fishbone and Panrider first stretch was down to Biggesee then up toward the Mohne and we more or less stumbled over the Sorpe this was the one of the three dams targetted during the war but being an earth fill dam it was not breached, all I can say was seeing that there was no planning and we just rode around it was fantastic, next time out will be planned and I'll take a camera but the area around the dams of which there must be 20 at least is fantastic
Clutchspring let me know when coming over it would be great to meet up.
An afternoon out
