    Re: monty halls (Applecross Area)

I stayed at the Applecross campsite on my up to TLD2008. Campsite and the pub both highly recommended and both biker friendly. In fact there was bunch of bike mag journo's staying at the pub. Donated £20 to the charity as well. The food at the pub is outstanding - especially the seafood as you would expect and their is even a good choice of decent beer - which in my experience is rarity in Scotland (choice and decency). I am taking the wife up at the end of May and plan (finances permitting) to stay at the Applecross Inn and at a pub in Sheildaig a bit further north.

I find the TV programme a bit of an over-romaticised description of living in a rural idyll, but its just enjoyable escapism and its fine. If I was local though I would be pretty fed up with the somewhat patronising way they are represented.

Yes, I agree the Campsite is nice and the food is good.

I have done quite a bit of camping all over the west coast, if your lucky with the weather and midges then its great.
But as ever scotland has changeable weather to say the least. So I would agree that they were very lucky when filming.

In April, we are going to stay at Feammore (up the coast from applecross) a cottage my wife rented for the week.

Later in the summer we are having 2 weeks camping at Badralloch, which is on little loch broom, up in ullapool area.

But since we have to take the doggy, its going to be with the truck not the bike.

Great photo Large - if you're taking a northwards excursion in April, towards Gairloch, do take the left turn and 9 mile road to Red Point, you end up looking south over Loch Torridon to Fearnmore etc. (and pass through my 'born-n-raised' cluster of houses at Opinan...) The circuit from Sheildaig - Kishorn - Applecross - Sheildaig is forming a 500+ person cycle event in May (Bealach Beag), and part of the 90 mile Bealach Mor Challenge in September. I don't think there's a better powered-bike to ride those roads than an @ or TA; worth one taking the bike and one taking dog et luggage...? Happy camping!

B*gger, BBC player doesn't work outside the UK, would have loved to see the episodes, as I am getting "homesick" at the moment! D@mn, D@mn, D@mn! No chance any of the episodes are on U-Tube?

Yip, I have been down that road, think we parked and walked to the beach there. It was some years ago but it was beautiful.

Much the same as some of the good folk of Dorzet got a bit hacked of with Hugh F-W and his River Cottage adventures et al Equally, I am sure there are many more, delighted with the tourism and related filip to the local area!

Just watched the first episode of the new series (BBC2 9pm so should be on iplayer soon) where he's acting as a volunteer ranger (Monty Halls' Great Hebridean Escape). Really great start and most important is that Ruebens is still with him and still as nutty as ever

    Totally agree,

    Good start to the series.
The scene showing the Highland Games ( read whisky olympics ) was hilarious
The local boys must have been told to behave themselves -- for a change !!

Yup, just watched the new show on I-Player ; more happy to see TV's most endearing star back again than I expected..

Now, if only he can get rid of the annoying sidekick with the glasses...
