Colditz

I am planning a day trip to visit Oflag IV C otherwise known as Colditz Castle that was used as a POW camp for Officers who were deemed to be problems for the Third Reich
Oflag IV-C - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Castle is located between Leipzig and Dresden and for me about a five hour journey.
So a quick trip out look at the museum and what's left of the Castle and run back home, It'll be good to have a long run out just to file and polish the rough bits for The Longest Day
I'm rebuilding the seat with a gel insert and sheepskin cover, I've never bothered before so hopefully It'll make a comfy ride.

I'll post some pics and maybe a vid or two to try my Wifes camera sshhhhhhhhhh she doesn't know I've got it

Re: Colditz

It's a great place to visit. When I visited a few years ago, the section that was the old German officer's quarters was being converted into a hostel. Do try to make time to take a guided tour.

Visit recorded in post #6 of this thread:

Re: Colditz

Hi Snaphappy,

When wear you thinking about going ?

Colditz looks intresting, I would like to stop in the youth hostal there,
It would be a good days riding for me , went to Dresden on a 1200 goldwing some years ago i think it was about 900 miles we did on that day mainly in pooring rain and not to mention the cobles on the slip roads,

Ian.

Not sure at the Mo, It'll probably be a spur of the moment thing just to get things sorted for TLD
Early May is as close as I can say.

Re: Colditz

After 760 miles? In one day? Probably the inside of your eyelids.

Re: Colditz

Just got back from my trip to Colditz

Coverd about 1600 miles all told , I stayed in a hotel in Leipzig for three nights,
Colditz was OK but a lot of the war history had been lost, the guide we had said in the next two years they were going to replace a lot and put it back how it was when it was a prison of war camp.

The town of Colditz its self was all dug up in the centre making it hard to find the road up to the castle,
If any one is thinking about going it might be a good idea to leave it for a couple of years,
If you do go make shore you visit the large ice ceam shop at the bottom of the town squre.
Ian.
