Anyone got advice for riding in Iceland

Im off on a round iceland trip at the end of june when the roads all open up again. Ive visited the country before but not on my bike.

Anyone ever been? Im a bit worried about whether my 600 Transalp will carry enough fuel to get between the fuel stations in the North?

Id be interested in any advice anyone can offer.

    Thanks chaps.

I got this book several years ago when planning a trip but never got around to actually going

Pre-order Iceland Overland now - The HUBB

I've been searching around for it to see what info it has but I'm afraid I can't find it right now, gah.

I have found this though, maybe you can email him..

Sorry can't give you any specifics, but I think while they're rare enough in Inner Iceland, they should be relatively common in the North (eekers).

    Firstly welcome to the forum,
As for riding in Iceland the Freezers are a bit too close together.
I have no Idea about the Fuel situation but Ballon tyres seem to be standard over there so The alp with TKC's should really be able to cope

the roads are supposed to be superb but the local cuisine leaves a lot to be desired, seal poo and rancid fish pickled in pee are two delicacies that spring to mind. they are also the largest banana grower in europe, oddly, so a bit of sweet to go with your seal poo sour sir?.......

    My advice ?

Take a camera and post the results on here for us all to see.

You are a lucky man enjoy.

From what I know / have heard about Iceland - carry a spare can of fuel and get some practice fixing punctures - the gravel roads are supposed to be hard on tyres.
    2011 Triumph Tiger 800 - "Black Pussy" - MMMM Nice !!!
    2000 Suzuki DRZ400S - "Ol' Yella" - very bright
    2011 Peugeot V-Clic 50cc - "Scoot" - It's my wife's, an enjoyable ride.

    I have a house , but I can't guarantee it's safe !!

Re: Anyone got advice for riding in Iceland

    Hi,
If you give me your email-address, I will send you the petrol-station-map for Iceland.
The Transalp with decent tires will be fine, I spent two weeks there on a Dominator. But my 16l tank was only good for relatively short trips into the highlands.
June seems a bit early. My trip was in August, when all the snow is melted and the rivers are low again (there are no bridges in the highlands).

Have fun in Iceland, it's great!
