2 weeks with bike - where do I go?

Sounds like a dream - I've been possibly given 2 weeks, by my wife, in august, to go somewhere on my bike. Sounds good but august is a rather busy month on the roads, I want to camp as much as possible and, as daft as it sounds, I feel guilty and nervous about being away from my family

First thought is the UK with a focus on scotland (midges??).
Second thought was france starting at the tunnel and going clockwise around med and back up through vendee and brittany.

    I haven't had a third thought yet

    I'm limited by cost only.

    Whaddya think

Avoid Spain in August +40 degrees all the time absolute nightmare i made that mistake a couple of years ago, all that heat in leathers/cordura constant battle with dehydration not a lot of fun.
What about Norway (depending on finances) i've heard alot about the scenery up there but it is expensive.
MInd you i enjoyed Scotland last year July plenty to do lots to see.
I did France end of may the year before 1 week away for my stag week went, down to the Millau Bridge thats impressive when you get underneath it. Could be worth a trip

August will be hot and looking at a recent post of the highlands it looks nice or Scandinavia a trip to Northcape
North Cape, Norway - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I've only been to Norway once and unfortunately not on my bike. Its an amazing country and very friendly, just dont get caught speeding, it is quite expensive but if your camping go rough, there are no shortage of places to stop and pitch tent.

Austria would get my vote - fantastic roads and easily doable in a fortnight.

Re: 2 weeks with bike - where do I go?

i just got back today from 10 days between barcelona and valencia. some awesome roads out there and no traffic, i well recommend it but in august it'll be scorchio, bad enough now.

where ever you go look on the michelin or AA maps for roads with "squiggles of natural beauty" alongside them, dont know what they are called properly but my name gives a clue what i mean.....
