To lock or not to lock - in France??

    Hi All,

Heading camping with the bike in France for 17 nites - trying to pack lite so do I need a chain lock or not? Will be staying in municipal or 3 star campsites mostly.

Also - whats the usual whilst on site, park bike in carpark or do they mind you parking up on your pitch?

usually you can park on pitch. I'd bring a disk lock, consider something more substantial only if you'll be leaving the bike unattended for longer periods.

    enjoy your trip!

lock up your bike if you're going near the big towns or cities, in rural france it's not a problem. Check your insurance, mine only insures against theft if the bike was locked with an agreed lock. That's the only reason I have one.

Moon hits the nail on the head. Just like home really, anywhere near big towns and cities be cautious. Rural is ok. If you got it lock it.

What they said. I don't behave differently to when I'm in the UK.

You shouldn't have any problems with campsites either. My bike was never parked more than about five feet from my tent last time I was there. We were able to get at least three tents on one pitch, although sometimes they charged us for two pitches (three on one, one on a second).

    Have a great trip.
