Arrow Riding to Munich - Route advice please

Hi

I'm riding down to Augsberg (just outside Munich) to be best man in a wedding. I was just wondering what people thought would be a good route down.

I was planning on Eurotunnel accross the channel unless I'm advised otherwise as I'm not that great on boats

So from Calais I was thinking of going down to Strasbourg over to Karlsruhe then down from there. I've two days each way to do this so would like to avoid motorways where poss.

I've been advised that in Germany that their equivalent of 'A' roads aren't much cop.

Thanks in advance for all of the advice

D

Roads over here are very good. I do accept that many A roads in the UK should have motorway status but believe me you will enjoy the roads over here.

crossing the channel, using the chunnel is quick, too quick for my liking. I like to use the ferry as my break, I have not used the tunnel but have heard its just a cattle carriage without the ****e, you sit next to your bike and the break factor is equivalent of sitting in a trafic jam
As for a route down to Munich you cant go wrong if you have the time swing a bit further south and come up again the whole area is picturesque, the closer to the border the better.

Have fun. SafeRidin'

Vielen Dank Snaphappy.

I'll have another look at the maps, it wasn't so much that the A roads are too big I'd been told that the non Autobahn routes there were very much stop start.

So do you reckon come into Germany as soon as and work my way down through there ?

Thanks

Follow the Rhine river as much as you can, at least until south of Wiesbaden/Mainz then head west. Glorious scenery, great roads, then head towards Schwabisch Hall. I've done it myself and I loved it. You can do a lot of that trip on A roads but it's quite a distance to cover in 2 days so you might want to use some autobahn here and there to make up the miles.
