Around GB Coast - info required

    Hi

I’m after a bit of info about riding around the coast of GB and I was wondering if anyone here has done it

What I was wondering is stuff like

Approximately how far it is by road (apparently there is 1500 miles of coastline)
And how long it took you
How did that equate to miles per day
How well did you stick to the coast
    What not to miss

I’ve done a bit of touring on bike and I’ve toured Scotland in a campervan and this is something for maybe next year

    Cheers

    Rick

Not done it myself but here are a couple of threads worth looking at. Maybe some useful info in there:

I think you dropped a zero.

Wikipedia says the main island coast is 11,072 miles.

Now the road is going to cut out a a lot of that but it is still going to be 6-7,000 miles at a guess.

I did the four compass points and that was more than 2,000 miles.

There's a book on the coast roads of England that suggest just that alone is 3,000 miles. Add to that Wales and Scotland and you've at least doubled it.

Did it a couple of years ago for charity. Didn't do all the coast but still covered over 3000 miles in a week.

Hi. I did it last August and covered just over 3000 miles in 2 weeks. I left from London and headed for the East Anglian coast and hugged it anti clock wise around Scotland, Wales and back along the south coast back to London. At first I stuck quite religiously to the actual coast line til I realised (by day 2!) that I still wasn't seeing much of the coast cos invariably there would be buildings in the way and that I was averaging around 15mph. After that I'd weave inland on an A road with a decent view of the sea and head back to the coast every now and then for stop offs and overnights. Have to say it was a great trip and the diversity of the GB coastline is well worth discovering. North coast of Scotland was a highlight. Here are some pics... A lap of GB (Aug 0 - a set on Flickr Good luck! Jason

    Hi

Thanks for the info and great photos

This is just what I was after,

We did the west coast of Scotland in a camper a few years ago and I recognise the pipe band in Ulapool,

We were getting fish & chips in the famous Ulapool chippy and the pipe band marched by, not something you see everyday.

The photos are very inspirational and its definitely on the agenda for next year

    Cheers
