    Help,Long route to Ullapool

Iv managed to get a week off in Sept so plan to head to the National the Sat before and take my time heading round the coast.

Plan (Sort of) is to head up the east coast to Aberdeen (Quickest route as i lived in Edinburgh for a year) and stay at a mate's Sat night.

Sunday leave Aberdeen and head to Ullapool the long way round.

What im after if possible u nice bunch is areas i should visit and routes i should take bering in mind i have all week, I want to get up to john o' Groats and Cape Wrath on route and arrive in Ullapool on Thurs. I could just stick to the coast but i know there are some greate routes and sites and would like to see as much as poss.

    Also some recommendations on Campsites.

Is it ok to wild camp in North Scotland.

    Meny Thanks Guys and Girls.

Welcome back to the land of the living (and no Black flies )

My thoughts of a route from Aberdeen:-

A944 to Alford, then on through Strathdon towrads the Lecht.
A939 over the Lecht to Tomintoul, then on towards Granton on Spey.
Take the B road towards Nethybridge - Colymbridge - Aviemore (Cairngorms are worth a visit).

There are loads of routes you could take to do the northern end up to JOG's. If I was you I'd run up the middle towards Altnaharra then do a east loop follwed by a west loop that would end up with you heading towards Ullapool with plenty days to spare.

Wild camping is allowed anywhere in Scotland - but it is easier to do it in the Highlands given the vast empty spaces .

If your travelling on Sunday and would like to meet up, drop me a line - there's a luverly cafe on the A939 near Cockbridge, just before you get to the Lecht. Or there is the Old Fire Station in Tomintoul - they do a great bacon roll .

OK Bazza, I'll await a note on this thread.

Small note for Sunday - it's the "Thunder in the Glens" weekend in Aviemore for the Hardly Davidson pig iron riders - 'fousands of leather clad chaps in . . . . . . leather chaps actually.

Seriously though, it's a great spectacle, with some superbly presented customised machines on show ( for show read posing ).
So, be prepared to ride very slowly for miles on end, on the roads leading to & from Aviemore this weekend behind be-tassled bling machines.

Oh I do hope it rains on them - they'll not take their machines out of there trailers

Please ignore my last post - senior moment!

Funder in the Glens is this weekend, so any close calls with chaps in chaps need no longer be of concern

    Hobbling off into my twighlight years . . . . .

    But . . . . . . .

The Alford Motorcycle Convention is on that Sunday - could be worth a visit if you've not been before.

Could meet you there if you wanted?

The forecast's looking good for Alford on Sunday, I'll be there with Fiona from lunchtime onwards until 4.00 ish. There will be a few folk from the forum there, big gig for this area. Also well worth it to see the purple helmets in action and the legendary moped racing!
Rain spreading from the west by evening though so best to camp up early for the night and head west next morning when the rain passes.
