    Lightbulb Cambodia, an offroad paradise

Hello all, I am new to this forum and would like to tell any and all coming here that I live, work and ride in Cambodia. Its all here, dirt roads, tracks, ox cart tracks, trails, beaches, forests, jungle, mountains, chaotic traffic in the towns, its adventure country all over.

    To any and all planning or even thinking to ride here, please get in touch with me, I offer free advice on the following;

    Routes
    Avoiding police scams
    Visa info
    Budget Touring
Bike rental, owned and serviced by expats
    Tour Companies
    Private guides
    Map info
    Daily costs/projections
    Where to stay
What to bring, what to leave home
    Info on local traffic laws
    Websites

Arranging 24/7 telephone support, in case you get lost, have an accident or breakdown and need to have local assistance, you can call a bilingual local, tell him your problem and he will mediate with the locals for you.

A local sim card costs 5usd by the way, all you need is a simple phone, available here for 20 usd, a potential lifesaver.
    Insurance advice
Licence advice (IDL not recognized here)

There are landmines here, I can supply you with maps of no go or danger areas

    Travel tips

Ask me anything, I will do my best to help you, hope to see some of you here for a cold one!

Cool Re: Cambodia, an offroad paradise

Heyup Yahoo, always nice to make new friends, as I am new to this forum, perhaps you can tell me how to pm and reply to pm's as I am not computer brilliant, just functional.

As to your pm to me, after being married to a Thai, I am used to and sometimes enjoy a bit of abuse! Please feel free to fire off any questions you may have.

Air Asia are running some good deals to Thailand, book now on the cheap, you can always push the departure date back to suit you.

To give you a rough cost projection, I say rough as I dont know where you want to go here, so here is the cost of one person, per day, at current prices here. All prices are in usd as it is the preferred currency here. (today's rate of exchange is 1 usd = 4,250 riels)

    Bike hire 15 usd

Petrol = 10 to 15 usd per 225 km ridden

Place to stay, hammock, mozzie net, rain cover(buy here, 20 usd) and tie up at a Temple-free, sometimes a small donation, and a blessing of the bikes and yourselves before you set off, camping is free, guesthouses will cost between 4 to 10 usd per night for the room, does not matter how many persons in the room. Prices are low for a fan room 3 to 6 usd, and for a room with AC, 7 to 12 usd.

Food, brekkie, lunch and dinner will cost 1 to 3 usd per meal

Beer 50 cents to a dollar per tin

Fags, 30 cents per packet of 20

Litre of the hard stuff, gin, rum, vodka, 7 to 9 usd per litre

Malaria tablets are 80 cents per strip of 10 tablets

Cheap phone with local sim card, 20 to 30 usd, bring an old phone, and then you need only to buy the sim card, 3 to 5 usd plus credit for calling, 3,5,7,10,20 usd cards available.

Internet is 50 cents to a dollar per hour, some places have free internet for guests.

Soooooo, you are looking at at about 50 usd per day, per person, 100 usd for the two of you, less if you take the hammock option, with the odd stay at a guesthouse thrown in. Convert to Sterling and you have an idea as to how much you will need per day.

If you want a guide(reccommended), we can discuss that later.

    Hope this helps mate!

    Mick
